The Role:

We are looking for a Sr. Manager of Software Engineering to join our team. As a technical influencer at Realtor.com®, you will contribute across all stages of the software development lifecycle and system health under your remit. Your leadership and collaboration skills will drive impactful, cross-organization initiatives, delivering industry-leading solutions. You’ll play a pivotal role in designing and implementing innovative systems that empower individuals and landlords in their renting journey. What You’ll Do:

Translate Strategy into Execution

• Convert product strategy into clear, actionable technology strategy and plans for your team

• Define priorities, scope, and sequencing to ensure focus on the highest-impact work

• Establish measurable goals and ensure alignment between day-to-day execution and long-term objectives

• Continuously adjust plans based on business needs, risks, and new information

• Drive improvements in reliability, performance, and operational excellence

• Own the operational health of systems and services, including reliability, performance, and incident response

Drive Accountability and Results

• Own outcomes for your team, ensuring commitments are met with high quality and predictability

• Establish clear ownership, roles, and decision-making structures within the team

• Implement mechanisms to track progress, surface risks early, and drive timely resolution

• Maintain a high bar for execution, balancing urgency with long-term sustainability

• Engage in key technical decisions, ensuring solutions align with business and system needs

• Partner with senior engineers to drive scalable, maintainable system design

Drive Cross-Functional Alignment

• Partner closely with product, design, and peer engineering teams to deliver shared outcomes

• Ensure strong engineering practices across design, testing, and operations

• Navigate dependencies and resolve conflicts to keep initiatives moving forward

• Facilitate healthy debate while ensuring decisions are made and executed

• Align roadmaps and execution plans across teams and organizations

Provide Clear Stakeholder Visibility

• Create consistent, transparent reporting on progress, risks, and outcomes

• Proactively communicate updates to leadership and cross-functional partners

• Synthesize complex technical and delivery information into clear, actionable insights

• Ensure stakeholders understand tradeoffs, timelines, and impacts of decisions

• Build trust through reliability, clarity, and follow-through

Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team

• Manage and grow a team of engineers across multiple levels

• Set clear expectations and provide regular, actionable feedback

• Identify and address performance gaps at both the team and individual level

• Coach and develop engineers and emerging leaders to increase their impact

• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement

• Ensure team success is durable and not dependent on individual contributors

• Exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential, sensitive, or

• ambiguous situations

• Maintain a high standard of professionalism in all interactions, especially under pressure or in high-visibility contexts

What You’ll Bring:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in leading software engineering teams in a technology company, 8+ years related experience

• A Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science/ Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

• A strong results and outcome-driven focus, understanding the value derived from rapidly shipping code and learning/iterating on the results

• Strong ability to coach and mentor engineers, helping them improve their skills and grow their careers

• Strong expertise in modern web architectures (e.g., React), backend development (e.g., Python), relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).

• Hands-on experience with high-level design and familiarity with best practices and design patterns

• Strong empathy for our customers and a passion for exceeding their expectations, always!

• A passion for learning, continuous improvement, sharing, and working in a team environment
