Lead Life Enrichment & Inspire Joy: Activities Director

Are you a dynamic, compassionate leader with a passion for enhancing the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities? We are seeking a dedicated Activities Director to join our facility leadership team, reporting directly to the facility Administrator.

As a critical part of our residents' comprehensive care, you will provide opportunities for entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and creative expression while fulfilling their essential psychological, social, and spiritual needs. In this leadership role, you will collaborate with team members to plan, organize, and direct a vibrant program of activities available to all residents, while providing specialized assistance to physically, emotionally, and cognitively impaired individuals and their families to explore meaningful hobbies and leisure pursuits.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Program Leadership & Direction: Plan, organize, direct, and implement detailed, engaging activity programs accessible to all residents across the facility.

  • Specialized Resident Support: Provide targeted assistance to physically, emotionally, and cognitively impaired individuals and families to help them explore appropriate hobbies and leisure activities.

  • Volunteer Program Development: Organize, develop, and manage a thriving network of volunteers to enrich our community life.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain thorough organization, accurate documentation, and successful execution of all program requirements as part of the facility leadership team.

What We Are Looking For

  • Core Expertise: Skill at working with individuals who have cognitive, physical, or sensory disabilities; practical knowledge of how an Activity Department functions in a nursing facility; outstanding interpersonal skills with a high level of energy and enthusiasm; and excellent creative and communication skills.

  • Education & Professional Criteria (Must meet at least one):

  • Degree and certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist, music therapist, or art therapist; OR

  • Certified activity coordinator by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP); OR

  • Two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the past five years, including one year full-time in a resident activities program in a healthcare setting; OR

  • Prior completion of a state-approved training course, or willingness to complete one within six months of employment.

  • Passion: A genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people within a nursing facility setting.
