Full job description

VP of Operations Nashville, TN

OPERATIONS, Business Operations

In office

Full-time

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

Nashville is home to the Music City Loop, a first of its kind transportation system, connecting downtown Nashville to the airport and other points of interest in Music city. We are looking for an operational leader to oversee all construction operations, ensuring the site runs safely, efficiently, and in lockstep with company goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end construction operations across tunneling projects, including station construction, buildout, and supporting infrastructure.

  • Oversee supply chain, trucking/assets, and logistics to maintain continuous material flow and equipment availability for high-tempo field operations.

  • Direct welding, fabrication, and specialty trade activities critical to tunnel segments, stations, and related structures

  • Build and manage multi-disciplinary construction teams, enforcing operational discipline in a fast-paced underground and surface environment.

  • Identify and react to technical and operational issues on-site, quickly coming up with mitigating actions.

  • Work with civil servants, elected officials, and contractors in local, state, and federal governing bodies, ensuring technology, operations, and construction are up to code.

  • Identify weak points across systems and processes, then propose and execute corrective actions.

  • Work closely with architectural and engineering teams on needed designs and features, delivering actionable requirements as the site scales.

  • Strategically stay ahead of an evolving and scaling site with appropriate operational and technological changes.

  • Make determinations on the best internal and outsourced approach for technical and construction work.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction, Engineering or relevant field

  • 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience overseeing operations at a physical site, ideally spanning multiple functions (e.g., operations and construction)

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to change

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Motivated to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience managing both operational and construction teams simultaneously
  • Comfortable serving as the on-the-ground point of contact for a multi-function site
  • Position may require extended hours and weekend work
