Full job description

Job Description

The NYC Department for the Aging (NYC Aging) promotes and supports inclusive, safe, affordable, healthy aging. NYC Aging remains steadfast in its role and responsibility to preserve the dignity and quality of life for approximately 1.8 million diverse older New Yorkers by eliminating food insecurity, providing access to affordable, stable housing, enhancing access to quality healthcare services and protecting older New Yorkers from harm and abuse with the ultimate goal of a more age-friendly city in which older adults can age gracefully with respect.

There are 1.8 million older adults in NYC, representing 20% of the population. NYC is becoming an older demographic, and we need to begin preparing now to meet the needs of older adults in the future. At the same time, we are facing a simmering crisis in Caregiving and need to begin to address this now - before it is too late. NYC Aging has a continued responsibility for introducing and engaging college undergrads and grad students to the field of aging and gerontology.

College Aide is necessary to implement critical initiatives at NYC Aging and will be instrumental in reporting to the Senior Director of Research & Development. The individual will assist with researching sustainability options for the aging services network, as well as identifying ways to improve the older adult experience in accessing needed services. This information is critical to the functioning of the department, and how to plan any service reforms for the future.

The Office of Policy, Innovation, & Development, within the Bureau of Planning and Data Management, helps to reform current programs and identifies opportunities to create new initiatives that promote the evolution and enhancement of aging services in New York City to meet the diverse and rapidly expanding needs of older New Yorkers. This includes coordination of solicitations for both new and existing programs, including enhanced programming that evaluates and expands programs. Additionally, a large portion of the new programming has been seeking opportunities in healthcare innovations, where the unit works to integrate and create partnerships between the Department for the Aging’s (NYC Aging) aging services and healthcare plans and providers.

The Senior Director of Policy, Innovation, & Development is seeking a college aide to support the Office with research and project management of initiatives related to NYC Aging's efforts to seek alternate sustainable funding resources and develop new programming. The College Aide will support all three units (Grant Development; Program Development & Innovation; and Planning & Policy) as projects arise and have the opportunity to work with internal NYC Aging leadership and external partners.

Roles and Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting research and understanding of how NYC Aging's contracted providers are impacted by the state's 1115 Medicaid waiver, NYC's social care networks, and other new developments arising from the state's Master Plan on Aging.

  • Assisting with development, implementation, and evaluation of reports and pilots resulting from the City's Cabinet for Older New Yorkers.

  • Creating and editing deliverables such as resource guides, best practice guides, and questions for focus groups.

  • Collating data and analysis into deliverables (e.g., reports/presentations); and participating in meetings with external partners to assist with partnership work as it arises.
