Description

Client will only consider Current Project Accountants working on large scale projects. 100% remote for candidates who are accustomed to working remote, and available and working during normal business hours. Ideal candidate has NetSuite and Procore.

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Project Accountant to oversee the financial performance of large-scale construction projects in Saratoga, California. This role focuses on maintaining accurate project cost records, delivering timely financial insight, and supporting sound decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings strong construction accounting knowledge, a detail-oriented approach, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project and finance teams in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee accounting activities for major capital construction projects from initial setup through final financial close.

  • Monitor budgets, committed costs, incurred expenses, and forecast updates while investigating and clarifying cost variances.

  • Prepare recurring project financial reports and cost summaries for internal stakeholders and leadership review.

  • Evaluate spending classifications to ensure costs are recorded correctly as capital or operating expenses in line with accounting guidance and company policy.

  • Review contractor and supplier invoices for accuracy, approve eligible charges, and coordinate timely processing.

  • Support billing administration, including progress-based, milestone-based, and cost-reimbursable invoicing as required by project terms.

  • Maintain accurate work-in-progress balances, retainage schedules, accrual entries, and other project-related accounting records.

  • Assist with cash flow planning and help identify funding needs across active projects.

  • Partner with Project Managers to highlight financial risks, improve cost control, and support audit requests with complete project documentation

Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.

  • At least 5 years of experience in project accounting, with strong preference for construction, infrastructure, or other capital-intensive environments.

  • Solid knowledge of project cost management, construction accounting practices, and work-in-progress tracking.

  • Hands-on experience with accounting or ERP platforms such as Procore, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday, or comparable systems.

  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze data, build reports, and interpret financial trends.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with accuracy.

  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.

  • Familiarity with construction contract structures, billing methods, and regulatory or internal control requirements is preferred.
