Overview

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilledTechnical Managerto join the Walbridge team. In this role, you will serve as the technical leader for mission critical and data center projects, providing expertise in mechanical, electrical, and commissioning systems throughout the project lifecycle.

You will lead MEP coordination, critical-path planning, procurement, startup, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities to ensure systems are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements and industry standards. Working closely with owners, design partners, trade contractors, and commissioning teams, you will proactively resolve complex technical challenges, drive quality and schedule performance, and support the successful delivery of highly reliable critical infrastructure environments.

Your expertise will help ensure all mechanical and electrical systems are properly planned, installed, tested, commissioned, and transitioned to operations while meeting client expectations for quality, reliability, and operational readiness.

You will work from a long-term project in New Carlisle, IN.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Develop Critical Path Schedule

  • Develop and maintain MEP-critical path schedules that align with overall project milestones and client turnover requirements.

  • Partner with subcontractors, vendors, commissioning agents, and the design team to identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system conflicts.

  • Monitor critical infrastructure installation activities to ensure schedule adherence and proactive issue resolution.

Procurement & Bid Process

  • Manage the procurement process for critical mechanical and electrical equipment, including long-lead items such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, cooling equipment, and controls.

  • Track equipment manufacturing, delivery, and installation milestones to support project schedule objectives.

  • Assist project teams with bidding, scope reviews, and contractor selection for mechanical and electrical trades.

Commissioning (CX) & Startup

  • Lead startup, pre-functional testing, and system readiness activities for mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Coordinate commissioning efforts with third-party commissioning agents, design consultants, subcontractors, and client representatives.

  • Manage and document quality control inspections, testing procedures, deficiencies, corrective actions, and commissioning milestones.

  • Support integrated systems testing, owner demonstrations, training activities, and final turnover documentation.

Coordinate Trades & Documentation

  • Coordinate and track critical-path construction activities involving mechanical, electrical, controls, and specialty trade contractors.

  • Review mechanical and electrical submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements.

  • Maintain accurate startup, commissioning, turnover, and quality documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Facilitate communication among project stakeholders to ensure alignment on technical requirements, schedule commitments, and construction progress.

Qualifications

To Qualify, you have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), commissioning, or technical construction activities, preferably within mission critical, industrial, or data center environments.

  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, building systems, equipment, materials, quality processes, and industry standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate, and manage MEP activities across multiple stakeholders while maintaining project schedule and performance objectives.

  • Experience supporting preconstruction efforts, equipment procurement, subcontractor coordination, and long-lead material planning is preferred.

  • Proven ability to identify and resolve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced construction environment.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively with owners, design teams, subcontractors, commissioning agents, and project personnel.

  • Ability to work on project assignments that may require temporary relocation, extended travel, or frequent visits to non-local job sites.

  • Valid U.S. driver's license and passport required.

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 70% based on project and business needs.
