Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) / Quality Trainer

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced welding inspection professional to serve as a technical leader within our wind tower manufacturing facility. This role is ideal for a current AWS CWI or a highly skilled welding inspector committed to obtaining CWI certification within one year. The successful candidate will drive weld quality, mentor inspectors, and help identify and prevent defects early in the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform visual weld inspections and verify compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and customer requirements.

  • Train, coach, and mentor quality inspectors on visual examination techniques, defect recognition, acceptance criteria, and inspection best practices.

  • Conduct hands-on and classroom training to develop inspection capabilities and improve consistency across the plant.

  • Support inspector qualification activities, evaluations, and skill development programs.

  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Welding Engineering teams to identify quality concerns and implement corrective actions.

  • Promote early detection of weld defects to reduce rework and improve overall manufacturing quality.

  • Perform audits, overchecks, and quality assessments to ensure inspection effectiveness and compliance.

  • Assist with root cause investigations, continuous improvement initiatives, and customer audits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred.

  • Candidates with significant welding inspection experience who can obtain CWI certification within one year are encouraged to apply.

  • Strong background in visual weld inspection, weld quality standards, and fabrication processes.

  • Experience training, mentoring, or leading inspectors is highly preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret welding symbols, blueprints, specifications, and quality documentation.

  • NDE experience and additional certifications are a plus.

  • Experience in heavy manufacturing, structural steel, energy, wind tower, or similar welded fabrication environments preferred.

Schedule

Shift: Day Shift

Hours: Monday-Friday, with flexibility to support production needs, training activities, audits, and occasional support to 2 nd shift.

Travel

Less than 10%, occasional travel may be required for training, audits, certification activities, and business needs.

Location

We have three openings, one for each site: Belen (NM), Newton (IA), or Tulsa (OK).
