CHMC-ICU-RN Clinical Coordinator – Full Time-Day shift- 8a-4:30p - Req 9741
Pay Range: $44.94-$59.54*
An RN Clinical Coordinator for a combined Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bridges bedside nursing care and unit leadership. They oversee clinical operations, mentor nursing staff, ensure regulatory compliance, and step in for complex patient care across both medical surgical and critical care settings.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Operations

Unit Operations: Oversee daily shift operations, staff assignments, and patient flow for both Med-Surg and ICU beds.

Patient Advocacy & Care Coordination: Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, coordinate complex discharge plans, and facilitate patient transfers between levels of care (e.g., ICU step-down to Med-Surg).

Bedside Support: Serve as a clinical expert, responding to Rapid Responses or Code Blues, and providing direct patient care during surge periods or complex cases.

Staff Mentorship & Resource Management

Team Development: Onboard, mentor, and evaluate RNs, Nurse Assistances, and Monitor techs across Med-Surg and ICU competencies.

Staffing & Scheduling: Balance nurse-to-patient ratios according to acuity levels (e.g., 1:1 or 1:2 in ICU vs. 1:5 to 1:6 on Med-Surg).

Conflict Resolution: Resolve patient, family, or interdepartmental issues in real time.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

Quality Improvement (QI): Track and audit unit-specific quality metrics (e.g., CAUTI, CLABSI, HAPI, falls, ventilator bundle compliance).

Policy Enforcement: Ensure staff adherence to hospital policies, evidence-based practices, DNV (Det Norske Veritas), and OSHA standards.

Incident Management: Investigate safety events, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective action plans.
Core Competencies

Critical Thinking: Rapidly assess deteriorating patients and adapt to varying acuity levels between general floor and ICU settings.

Communication: Effectively liaise between physicians, bedside nurses, nurse managers, and patient families.

Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, vasoactive drips, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), as well as general telemetry and surgical post-op management.
Job Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; MSN preferred
Licensure:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) NY state license or compact license
Certifications:

BLS and ACLS required; PALS preferred

Specialty certifications strongly preferred (e.g. CCRN for Critical Care, CMSRN for Med Surg)
Experience:

Minimum 3-5 years of clinical RN experience, with demonstrated time in both Med-Surg and ICU/Critical Care settings.

At least 1-2 years in leadership role (Charge Nurse, Preceptor, or Team Lead)
