Full job description

Corporate Librarian (Temporary)

Location:

White Plains, US

Summary

The Corporate librarian provides support to the NYPA corporate and engineering library. The library is predominately digital and they will administer, configure, maintain, troubleshoot and support integration among the library systems, including the integrated library system EOS/Sirsi Dynix,(Libby) electronic resource platforms, publication authentication and related technologies. Setting up and maintaining of group accounts (such as Accuris, Dun & Bradstreet, NY Times Pass/newspapers)

Collaborate with IT staff, Operations/Engineers, Procurement staff and external vendors to evaluate, implement, enhance and support library technologies, service and workflows. Working with vendor reps to set up training for end users.

  • Collect, analyze and report usage to support assessment, planning and decision making, assist with acquisitions and evaluate digital products to replace hard copy resources.

  • Maintain the Library’s website and related web service in collaboration with users and vendors.

  • Provide one on one training, consultation and basic support to Library users,( in White Plains and Albany) including setting up accounts, resetting log ins, and performing reference interviews to help users locate information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to and work closely with users to ensure their needs and requirements are met.

  • Retrieve historical and reference materials for users.

  • Perform a variety of common and specialized tasks, including setting up user accounts, providing access to news and information sources, securing copyrighted information. Helping end users with plug ins and other software to enable access to electronic information by managing digital rights.

  • Create and update online data records, develop, maintain and document cataloging procedures.

  • Maintain, receive, verify, and prepare documents for electronic input and retrieval from various servers.

  • Maintain the library in optimal condition. Shelve and retrieve hard copy information, check out items, follow up on overdue items.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to maintain, reference, and research cataloging and indexing areas for technical data.

  • Working knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of library science.

  • Ability to interact with personnel to supply data through research of reports, periodicals, and internet and intranet systems.

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills.

  • Working knowledge of informational resources and ability to critically evaluate and filter information.

  • Strong familiarity with workplace productivity software.

  • Strong spreadsheet and data analytic skills

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor required.

  • Master’s degree in library science preferred or working towards an MLS, currently enrolled in a program or equivalent experience in research or library and information

  • Minimum 2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated hourly rate for this position is: $34.87 - $43.59. The pay rate offered will be based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
