Full job description

Position Overview

The Senior Power Generation Engineer is a highly experienced technical leader within OPPD's Generation Engineering team. This role supports OPPD's mission by delivering expert engineering guidance across multiple generation sites including Cass County, Turtle Creek, Jones Street, and others. You will lead system health strategies, conduct advanced troubleshooting, manage large-scale upgrades and high-risk projects, and shape long-term reliability strategies for generators, electrical equipment, and plant control systems. This position requires deep technical expertise and the ability to mentor and elevate engineering capability across the organization.

The Impact You'll Have

  • Lead technical strategy and decision-making for complex engineering challenges and long-term reliability needs.

  • Direct the planning, budgeting, and execution of major equipment upgrades or modifications.

  • Drive improvements in plant electric control systems, including logic updates and configuration control.

  • Conduct and lead resolution of the most complex, high-impact troubleshooting efforts.

  • Lead system health monitoring by analyzing data trends, inspections, and tests to identify emerging reliability risks and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Enhance engineering workflows, tools, and methodologies to advance organizational capability.

  • Mentor engineering staff, providing coaching and technical leadership that builds long-term talent and organizational strength.

  • Oversee engineering workstreams and coordinate efforts across disciplines to ensure cohesive, high-quality project execution.

What You'll Bring

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully complete essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nebraska or ability to obtain Nebraska registration within 6 months through reciprocity and relevant experience.

Preferred Experiences

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Extensive engineering experience (typically 8+ years) in power generation or industrial electrical systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical efforts and mentor engineers.

  • Strong capability in system troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and equipment reliability strategies.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence across disciplines.

  • Experience leading cross-functional, high-risk, or time-sensitive projects.

  • Expertise in generator reliability management, electrical protection systems, or advanced control logic.

  • Experience developing engineering standards, tools, or organizational processes.

Salary/Wage Info

Grade: S6

Minimum: $109,942

Midpoint: $137,428
