Full job description
Make a meaningful impact in your community at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH), where your critical care expertise directly shapes patient outcomes in our close-knit, four-bed Intensive Care Unit.
About This Role
As an ICU RN at NVRH, you’ll provide high‑acuity, comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring intensive monitoring and complex intervention. You will work with a broad patient population, delivering specialized, compassionate care during critical illness.
This role offers the opportunity to practice at the top of your skill set in a critical access hospital, where teamwork, clinical excellence, and patient-centered care drive every decision.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver High‑Quality Critical Care Provide comprehensive ICU assessments, manage cardiac monitoring and hemodynamics, administer medications safely, perform IV/venipuncture skills, support airway and ventilator management, and respond rapidly to sepsis, shock, and other emergencies.

Promote Clinical Safety & Best Practices Follow AACN and NVRH protocols; ensure accurate, timely EMR documentation; maintain safe operation of ICU equipment; uphold infection prevention standards; and contribute to quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Support Patient & Family Education Offer clear, compassionate education from admission through discharge, guide families during high-stress situations, and collaborate on safe, effective discharge planning.

Collaborate, Lead & Mentor Work closely with the interdisciplinary team, support new staff onboarding, foster a positive and professional work environment, and participate in meetings, initiatives, and cross-training efforts.
Required Qualifications
-
Graduate of an approved RN School of Nursing

Current Vermont RN license or multi-state compact RN license
-
Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
-
ACLS required within 6 months of hire
-
Completion of a critical care course within 1 year of hire
Preferred:
-
PALS certification
-
Critical Care or related specialty certification
-
Experience in an ICU or high‑acuity clinical setting (new grads welcome to apply with interest in critical care)
