About the Role:

The Department of English at Concordia College (Moorhead, Minnesota) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible position in American Literature at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2027.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Indigenous literature

  • African-American literature

  • Latinx literature

  • Global literature

  • Environmental literature/ecocriticism

The successful candidate will be qualified to teach literature courses at all levels of undergraduate work. The candidate would also teach our first-year composition courses, which share common elements but leave room to be designed around each teacher’s interests.

The teaching load is three courses per semester. We seek candidates who are also pursuing an active research agenda. The position requires institutional service including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year as well as assisting the department and interdisciplinary programs in curriculum development, revision, and evaluation. Successful candidates will aspire to be part of a diverse community that affirms an abundance of identities, experiences, and perspectives in order to imagine, examine, and implement possibilities for individual and communal thriving both inside and outside of the Department of English.

About the Department:

The Department of English at Concordia College is a dynamic program of nine faculty and has recently revised the requirements for the Literature and Writing majors based on the following goals: Read, Inquire, Empathize, Write, and Change the World. We are focused on using literature and writing to engage students at all levels, in the Core Curriculum as well as in our majors. We are a highly interdisciplinary department, coordinating classes and programs with Multimedia Journalism, Women’s and Gender Studies, Pre-Law, Global Studies, Environmental Studies, the Offutt School of Business, Education, and more. We are also a department dedicated to scholarship, with regular publications and presentations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ABD status for a Ph.D. in English or related discipline

  • Demonstrated experience teaching college-level English, including composition

  • Demonstrated potential for research, scholarly, and creative activities

  • Demonstrated facility with one or more of the following: African-American literature, Indigenous literature, Latinx literature, environmental literature/ecocriticism, or global literature

  • Demonstrated commitment to scholarly excellence and willingness to serve on appropriate program, college, and university committees

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in English or related discipline, completed by the start of appointment

  • Training and expertise in the pedagogy of teaching writing and literature

  • Demonstrated potential to contribute to the program and form interdisciplinary partnerships

The final salary will be determined based on factors such as education, experience, skills, certifications, and alignment with the position's requirements. Other considerations may include internal equity and market conditions.
