This vacancy is with the Department of Health in the Communicable Disease & Public Health Nursing Division, Tuberculosis Control Branch, Tuberculosis Screening and Radiology Section, Radiology Unit.
Salary:
Level I: $4,054 to $5,133 per month (SR-14, Step C to I)
Level II: $4,388 to $5,555 per month (SR-16, Step C to I)

Responsible for supervising and/or performing the operation of radiant energy equipment and instruments, utilizing x-rays, radium, radioisotopes, etc., for radiographic, observational or therapeutic purposes, under the direction of a radiologist or other physician. Positions are involved in one or more of the three specialized areas within the field of radiology: (1) chest x-ray, (2) diagnosis, and (3) therapy. Positions are comprised by essentially technical support occupations to radiologists and other physicians.
Level I: Involves the independent operation of x-ray equipment, fluoroscope, and other similar types of equipment utilized in chest x-ray clinics and/or mobile chest x-ray units for the primary detection of tuberculosis. The assignments at this level are fairly routine and repetitious, confined to the specific area of the chest and involving primarily patients or groups of people who are not injured, disabled or ill. Supervision received is general and the incumbent works within the framework of well established procedures, techniques and policies. Personal contact are primarily limited to explaining examination procedures to patients and working with large groups of people in mass chest x-ray surveys; performs other duties as assigned.
Level II: Involves the independent performance of a wide range of x-ray examinations and procedures in one or more specialized areas in the field of radiology. Work is performed within a framework of well established policies and procedures, but judgment is regularly required in the selection of procedures and techniques. General supervision is provided by a radiologist or a physician who is available for consultation and advice when necessary. Assignments may also include responsibility for carrying out some activities for effective management of the x-ray services in a chest x-ray clinic where the scope of operation typically requires a single position, that of an X-ray Technician II. These assignments typically include budget estimating, seeing that adequate supplies are maintained and recommending equipment purchases; performs other duties as assigned.To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK : The State of Hawaii Requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
License Requirement for both levels: State positions practice radiologic procedures for chest x-ray and diagnostic purposes and do not practice radiation therapy or nuclear medicine. Therefore, applicants are required to possess a valid license as a Certified Radiographer to practice radiography in the State of Hawaii, in accordance with Chapter 466J, Hawaii Revised Statutes, and Department of Health Administrative Rules, Title 11, Chapter 44.

Specialized Experience:
Level I: No Specialized Experience required.
Level II: One (1) year of progressively responsible experience as described below: For positions involved in the detection of tuberculosis or other chest ailments, the experience must show ability to operate radiographic equipment. For those positions involved in diagnostic x-ray services, the experience must show that the applicant has gained a thorough knowledge of x-ray procedures and/or techniques such as angiograms, mylograms, tomograms, sinuses, etc., including the x-ray of such areas of the human anatomy as the chest, skull, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and vascular system.
Supervisory Experience: For positions that supervise, applicants must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
