Full job description

Location: Binghamton, NY Category: Faculty Job Type: Full-time Posted On: Mon Oct 5 2026 Job Description:

The Theatre Department at Binghamton University seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Acting with a specialization in Voice and Speech/Dialects beginning Fall 2027. We are looking for an artist-teacher whose work bridges acting, voice, and embodied performance practice, and whose pedagogy is rooted in both rigorous training and a spirit of inquiry, collaboration, and discovery.

The successful candidate will teach voice and speech/dialects in BFA and BA programs, teach acting across a variety of levels, coach and/or direct departmental productions. We are particularly interested in candidates who see voice not as a separate discipline, but as deeply interconnected with the actor's body, imagination, and relationship to text. Other classes may be taught depending upon the candidate's field of specialization. Additional areas of specialization may include heightened language, movement, physical theatre, clown, intimacy direction, stage combat or other embodied performance forms.

The preferred candidate's pedagogical approach will be informed by professional practice and influenced by traditional and emerging trends in voice, speech and actor training. We seek an artist-teacher whose pedagogy, creative activity, and/or professional experience is rooted in diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion as fundamental cornerstones of a public education and has experience working with diverse student populations.

In addition to teaching, the position carries an expectation for research and/or creative activity in vocal coaching, dialect direction, acting, directing, and/or performance pedagogy, leading to tenure. The position will contribute to the program by undertaking administrative commitments, serving on department and university committees, participating in student mentorship and advising, and modeling collaborative skills.
