Full job description

About Base Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role We're looking for a product designer to help shape how people discover, understand, and get started with Base, while helping create a cohesive user experience across the customer journey.

You'll work across our website, enrollment experience, and mobile app, improving existing experiences and building new features as we grow. You'll gather customer insights and use product metrics to identify opportunities, understand where people get stuck, and design solutions that improve usability, engagement, and conversion.

You'll take ownership of problems, independently exploring ideas and bringing solutions to life. You'll work closely with engineering, growth, operations, and the design team to ship great experiences and continue improving them after launch.

What You'll Do

  • Evolve our top-of-funnel experience. Continuously identify opportunities to improve how people discover, understand, and enroll with Base. Explore new approaches, benchmark great onboarding and conversion experiences, and experiment with everything from small copy and design changes to entirely new flows. Use conversion data to understand what works and keep raising the bar.

  • Shape and build what's next. Identify opportunities, explore new ideas, and take ownership of new features from concept through launch across our website and mobile app.

  • Let data guide your design decisions. Analyze product metrics, enrollment funnels, and member behavior to identify opportunities, uncover friction, challenge assumptions, and inform what to build and improve.

  • Own the outcomes, not just the output. Monitor product performance after launch, analyze results against your goals, and use those insights to guide future improvements.

  • Be a designer who builds. Use AI, code, and emerging tools to prototype ideas, explore possibilities, and turn concepts into working experiences.

  • Make the complex concepts feel simple. Find simple ways to make energy and the grid feel simple and approachable.

  • Help shape our design language. Collaborate with the product design team to evolve and build our design systems.

  • Balance multiple projects, knowing when to move quickly, when to go deeper, and how to prioritize the work that matters most.

What You'll Bring

  • 2 to 4 years of product design experience, ideally working on consumer products.

  • A portfolio that demonstrates strong visual craft, thoughtful interaction design, and clear problem solving.

  • Comfort working with product metrics and analytics to understand user behavior, identify friction, and make informed design decisions.

  • The ability to take a defined problem, explore different approaches, and independently drive a solution through launch.

  • Experience using product data, customer insights, and experimentation to identify opportunities, improve existing experiences, and measure impact.

  • Comfort using AI and new tools to go beyond traditional design workflows. We'd love to see something you've built, not just designed.

  • Strong Figma skills and experience working within and contributing to a design system.

  • Strong design judgment and the ability to make exceptional work within real-world constraints.

  • A resourceful, curious mindset. You're willing to figure things out, learn new skills, and find better ways to work.

  • A point of view on your work, paired with openness to feedback and collaboration.

  • Curiosity about energy, climate, or products that combine hardware and software.

About the Team The Design team shapes how people see, understand, and experience Base. We turn complex products and technology into something simple, approachable, and trustworthy. Our work touches nearly every part of the business, from launching new markets and building utility partnerships to helping homeowners understand a new kind of power company.

We work across digital experiences, physical products, campaigns, sales, events, and everything in between. It's a rare opportunity to work across so many mediums, build things that exist in the real world, and help define what Base becomes as we grow.

We're a small, ambitious team with a high bar for craft and a bias toward making things happen. We believe great design is about more than the final deliverable. It's about solving the right problems, building foundations for future work, and making everyone around us better. We value people with strong opinions, a sense of ownership, and the resourcefulness to make exceptional work within real constraints.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our Values

  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.

Do the best work of your life at Base.
