Job Summary

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2027. As a scientist-practitioner program within a large, research-active School of Psychology, we seek colleagues who are committed to high-quality teaching, research, service, and clinical training. Faculty contribute across the School’s academic offerings, including teaching courses for our large undergraduate major and clinical training within our graduate programs, often drawing on their own research and clinical expertise. Research mentoring provides additional opportunities to support students’ professional development outside the classroom. Faculty are also encouraged to engage in university service through admissions, professional development, and committee work, contributing to growth and success of or programs.

Clinical training includes on-campus supervision of master’s students in external clinical placements and faculty-supervised practica through our in-house training clinic, the Center for Behavioral Health (CBH). The CBH’s state-of-the-art video system supports high-quality supervision, while its diverse clientele provides students with experience working with a broad range of presenting concerns and populations. The CBH also facilitates research collaborations among faculty and students across the School. For applied faculty, Mississippi’s licensure requirements do not include postdoctoral supervised experience, enabling a more streamlined path to professional licensure.

The School of Psychology enrolls approximately 600 undergraduate majors and 125 graduate students across three APA -accredited doctoral programs (Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology), a doctoral program in Experimental Psychology, and a MPCAC-accredited master’s program in Counseling Psychology. Graduate curricula are intentionally coordinated to provide opportunities for students from different disciplines to learn alongside one another and develop an appreciation for interdisciplinary collaboration. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a robust program of research.

• Teach undergraduate and graduate classes, including graduate level practicum courses.

• Obtain licensure in the state of Mississippi (note that MS does not require postdoctoral hours).

• Seek extramural funding.

• Contribute to the mission of the university and profession through service activities.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
