Full job description

We are currently looking for a Ruby API Senior Developer for a 100% remote position supporting a large federal government healthcare modernization project. This role will design, develop, enhance, and maintain Ruby on Rails applications and RESTful API endpoints, with a strong focus on scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Ruby on Rails and REST API development, along with working knowledge of React and modern web application development practices.

The position will work closely with software engineers, architects, and other technical team members in a collaborative Agile development environment to support existing applications and deliver new functionality.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Ruby on Rails applications and RESTful API endpoints.
  • Develop scalable and maintainable APIs that support integrations between applications and services.
  • Enhance and maintain existing Ruby on Rails applications while following established development and architectural best practices.
  • Develop and integrate front-end functionality using React and related JavaScript technologies.
  • Troubleshoot application and API issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with developers, technical leads, architects, and stakeholders to design and deliver application enhancements.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of professional software development experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing applications using Ruby on Rails.
  • Strong experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with React, JavaScript, and modern web application development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to developing high-quality, maintainable software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a distributed technical team.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and writing efficient database queries.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and software development best practices, including Git-based version control and CI/CD.
  • Experience supporting applications within federal government or healthcare IT environments is preferred.

Security Clearance Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • All selected candidates must successfully complete a background check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including required fingerprinting, when required for the position.
