LEAD POWER SYSTEMS ENGINEER

SpaceX power systems engineers work in a fast-paced environment with other engineering disciplines to provide detailed designs and construction specifications for the installation of new equipment and systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team of engineers to provide support for the design, operation, material/component selection and procurement, construction, activation, and maintenance of electrical power distribution systems, load center panels, and supporting infrastructure

  • Communicate with electrical utilities personnel for design/engineering and maintenance to provide support and direction to electricians and technicians during construction, activation, and maintenance of power distribution, motor control centers, test stands, and equipment

  • Support testing campaigns by monitoring and reviewing critical issue tickets, responding in a timely fashion to troubleshoot and remedy electrical equipment

  • Develop novel ways to streamline site-wide processes and increase the reliability and efficiency of testing operations for the Rocket Development Facility

  • Perform any additional tasks that ensure efficient and effective testing, as required

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering

  • 5+ years of experience working as an electrical engineer focusing on power distribution systems

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Professional Engineering license

  • Experience with electrical and power distribution systems of high, medium, and low voltage

  • Experience creating and implementing process/design solutions without shutting down or pausing business operations

  • Experience designing and installing systems in a Class 1, Division 1 and Division 2 environment

  • Acute attention to detail, ability to see interactions with other systems to avoid problems

  • Familiarity with National Electric Code, National Fire Protection Association and International Building Code analysis

  • Experience with:

  • Substations (utility company)

  • Switchgear and motor control centers

  • Primary (12,470Vac) and secondary (480/277Vac) power distribution

  • Delta/Wye transformer configurations

  • Panel circuit assignment

  • Load center balancing

  • Building lighting, building construction specifications, and facility grounding

  • Combination motor starters, Variable Frequency Drives, electrical motor troubleshooting/repair

  • AutoCAD - Intermediate skill level (AutoCAD Electrical a plus)

  • UPS systems, Backup Generators, Automatic Transfer Switches

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Role may require extended hours, weekend work and shift schedules, that vary depending on site operational needs; flexibility required

  • Willing to perform hands-on work in all environments (heat, cold, rain), in tight quarters, or at heights

  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed

  • Ability to remain focused while working in hazardous environments and while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment, under possible extended work hours

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs. unassisted
