Full job description

About ALSO. We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

ALSO is seeking an execution-driven Sr Manager, Real Estate & Workplace, to lead workplace strategy, projects, programs, and teams based in our Palo Alto HQ for a global multi-site portfolio spanning office, R&D labs, commercial hubs, and retail.

This role owns team leadership, strategic planning, critical project execution, and executive-level representation alongside the Director, partnering daily with IT, Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, Legal, Insurance, People, and cross functional key stakeholders. Success requires ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment, drive R&D projects to execution, disciplined governance, financial rigor, 3rd party management, and the ability to anticipate space and workplace service needs (ie, mail, logistics, culinary, janitorial, and moves). Onsite 3-5 days/week, with off-hours availability for time-sensitive and critical issues.

What You Will Do Team & Program Leadership

  • Lead the Real Estate & Workplace team (operations, facilities, mail, logistics, culinary, janitorial) as deputy lead, balancing competing priorities with long-term focus.

  • Manage projects end to end, including portfolio administration, R&D lab build-outs, workplace programs, and occupancy data.

Strategic Space Planning & Occupancy Analysis

  • Own headcount and occupancy analysis, turning hiring plans and growth into space strategy, capacity models, and scenarios.

  • Drive long-range workplace strategy and partner with Finance and Analytics on forecasting and tradeoff recommendations to leadership.

Vendor, Contract & Budget Management

  • Manage vendors, consultants, landlords, and GCs with negotiation and financial accountability.

  • Own budget tracking, forecasting, and RFPs with Purchasing and Finance, and oversee lease transactions end to end with Legal and Risk.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Act as the connective tissue across IT, Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, Legal/Compliance, Analytics, and G&A.

  • Support Executive Assistants on space, logistics, and events, and communicate credibly with landlords, brokers, executives, and building inspectors.

Technical R&D Project Delivery & Operations

  • Coordinate lab infrastructure and equipment installs with Engineering and vendors.

  • Partner with the IT and EHS & Security Manager on life-safety and compliance, and serve as a point of contact for after-hours facilities emergencies.

Process Governance & Data Enablement

  • Implement standard PM frameworks, ticketing, and KPI/milestone dashboards.

  • Adopt new technology and AI-assisted tools to streamline workflows as the portfolio grows.

What You Will Bring

  • 7+ years of progressive real estate, workplace, or facilities operations experience, with demonstrated growth from individual execution into a leadership scope.

  • Track record leading teams and operating as a trusted second-in-command.

  • Comfortable partnering across IT, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Purchasing, and communicating credibly from AHJs to executives.

  • Working knowledge of commercial leases, vendor contracts, and budget/financial management.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and fast-changing priorities; adaptable to new technology, software, and AI-assisted tools.

  • Familiarity with EHS, physical security concepts, and specialized lab/R&D infrastructure preferred (this role partners with a dedicated EHS & Security Manager rather than owning those programs directly).

  • Experience scaling high-tech, EV, or R&D lab environments strongly preferred.

  • Able to respond to occasional off-hours emergencies.

The salary for this position ranges from $200,000 - $220,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

Perks and Benefits

  • Robust health coverage. Excellent health, dental and vision insurance covered up to 100% by Also. with FSA & HSA options.

  • One Medical membership and dedicated insurance advocates.

  • Rich fertility and family building benefits with Progyny.

  • Flexible time off.

  • 401(k) match.

Why ALSO. We’re passionate about helping the world find a better way to get there—wherever it is you’re headed. We’re located in the heart of Silicon Valley and have brought together a world-class team from some of the biggest brands in the technology, automotive, cycling, outdoor recreation and retail spaces. Together we’re working hands-on to imagine, design and build an entirely new solution to a global set of transportation challenges.
