Description and Requirements

The Team You Will Join

Join our Global Risk Management Group, where you’ll play a key role in safeguarding the company, ensuring we deliver on our commitments to customers and stakeholders, and driving responsible growth. As part of our team, you’ll identify, monitor, and mitigate both financial and non-financial risks across the organization. Leverage your expertise as the second line of defense to advise our business on effective risk management strategies. This means challenging ideas, implementing robust controls, and enforcing guardrails to foster responsible business growth. Join us in advancing MetLife’s legacy of trust through exemplary risk management practices.

The Opportunity

The Vice President, Non-US New Product Risk Management, is a strategic second-line risk leadership role within the Insurance and Product Risk Management area of Global Risk Management responsible for the risk review, challenge, and approval of product and pricing initiatives across MetLife's non-US individual, group and credit life businesses.

The role identifies novel and emerging risks presented by new and repriced products, distribution partnerships and underwriting cases, translates those risks into pricing standards and practical controls, and ensures the enterprise's non-US product activities remain aligned to risk appetite, existing financial and non-financial risk governance frameworks and regulatory expectations.

This position has broad enterprise impact through close collaboration within GRM and with Product, Pricing, Finance, Actuarial, Legal, Compliance, Operations and Business stakeholders. The role helps shape the strategic vision for product and insurance risk management, drives risk-based decisioning in the product and pricing approval process, and strengthens consistency, transparency, and scalability of governance across new and emerging product initiatives.

The role is critical to enabling responsible growth with attractive, all-weather returns by balancing business value creation with disciplined risk oversight, clear escalation of material and emerging issues, and ongoing monitoring of product risk themes, control effectiveness, and emerging regulatory developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the risk review and challenge, and approval of all corporate product and pricing initiatives for non-US individual, group and credit life products.
  • Ensure all new and repriced products, distribution partnerships and underwriting cases support responsible growth with attractive, all-weather returns aligned with MetLife’s risk appetite and pricing standards.
  • Identify and monitor key risks impacting product profitability and risk profile, share data driven insights with key stakeholders, and work with business partners to escalate and remediate deviations.
  • Manage group and credit life underwriting delegations of authority and support pricing standard updates that speed up decision-making while maintaining appropriate guardrails.
  • Reimagine and enhance the robustness of product and underwriting case reviews and post-launch monitoring, using AI to match the increasing speed of product development.
  • Conduct periodic product, pricing and underwriting risk reviews for emerging risks and share best practices across global markets.
  • Lead and develop a highly motivated and talented team in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, building a culture of high-quality, practical, business-minded risk professionals.
  • Support and provide strategic advice to the SVP, Insurance & Product Risk Management and the Chief Risk Officer to drive Global Risk Management priorities and enhance management of product and insurance risks.
  • Serve as strategic and trusted business advisor to all non-US product and pricing stakeholders including Product, Pricing, Finance, Actuarial, Legal, Compliance, Operations and Risk partners.

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience within insurance industry including in product, pricing or risk management.
  • Strong technical understanding of insurance product development, pricing and underwriting across individual, group and credit life products, and the related risk management practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and maintain enterprise governance frameworks, policies, standards, and approval processes.
  • Experience managing across a complex, highly matrixed organization.
  • Strong strategic thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify emerging issues and translate them into practical governance actions.
  • Excellent technical, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence senior leaders and present complex topics clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with regulatory, governance, and control expectations relevant to insurance products, pricing, and underwriting.
  • Demonstrated fluency with AI and advanced analytics, including the ability to use AI tools to make product risk reviews faster and deeper, and to critically assess features in product design, pricing and underwriting.
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Professional qualification in actuarial science (FSA or equivalent).
