The Zhou Lab (www.zhou-labs.com) at Binghamton University, in collaboration with Dr. David Czaplewski at Argonne National Laboratory, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in NEMS/MEMS. The researcher will conduct on-site research at the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) under the co-mentorship of Drs. Zhou and Czaplewski. The researcher will hold appointments as a Postdoctoral Associate for the Research Foundation at Binghamton University (employer) and as a Resident Associate at ANL (visiting title).

The research will focus on nano-opto-electro-mechanical systems (NOEMS) and/or nonlinear nano/micro-electro-mechanical systems (N/MEMS) for precision measurement. The postdoctoral associate will:

• Design, model, fabricate, and characterize advanced N/MEMS devices using state-of-the-art facilities at the Center for Nanoscale Materials;

• Lead and contribute to research projects in N/MEMS, nonlinear dynamics, and precision measurement, including the development of new research concepts and contributions to research proposals;

• Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present research findings at scientific conferences; and

• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to a collaborative research environment.

Job Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Mechanics, Optics, or a closely related field, or expected completion of the Ph.D. prior to appointment;

• Research experience in NEMS/MEMS or a closely related field, such as inertial sensing, nonlinear dynamics, nanomechanics, electronics, optics, acoustics, or precision measurement;

• Strong experimental or theoretical skills relevant to NEMS/MEMS research, with experience in areas such as micro/nanofabrication, experimental measurement, or modeling;

• A strong research record demonstrated through publications or significant contributions to research projects;

• Ability to conduct research independently and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment; and

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Additional Information:

Salary: $63,500 annually. Note: This position will be located at the Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, IL.
