Full job description

Vontive is a growing FinTech company focused on leveraging our proprietary technology to make accessing capital fast and simple for real estate investors involved in fix-and-flip projects or rental property purchases. Vontive was founded by mortgage and technology veterans from Freddie Mac and Palantir, and is venture-backed by Citi, Zigg Capital, Founders Fund, Goldcrest, 8VC, XYZ, Village Global, and other well-known investors.

We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Assistant Controller to help lead our accounting operations, strengthen our control environment, and scale processes to support a rapidly growing financial services business. This role will oversee core accounting functions, drive operational excellence, and partner cross-functionally to enable strategic decision-making. Responsibilities

  • Coach and develop a small, high-performing team across loan and corporate accounting, fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, and accountability.
  • Oversee a timely, accurate, and efficient month-end close process.
  • Streamline accounting processes; ensure compliance with GAAP, including complex areas such as loan accounting, consolidations, securitizations, and investments.
  • ERP system implementation — lead the RFP process, drive vendor selection, and manage the end-to-end implementation to modernize and scale our finance infrastructure.
  • Manage annual financial statement audits and tax compliance processes, serving as the key liaison with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Partner with FP&A and Capital Markets on forecasting, financing activities, and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead technical accounting research and accounting memo preparation for complex transactions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or equivalent required.
  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, including 3+ years in loan accounting.
  • 3+ years of managerial experience leading accounting teams.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and implementations, plus experience with complementary finance tools such as close management platforms (e.g., Numeric, Blackline, FloQast) and AI-driven process tools.
  • Comfortable shifting between leadership and hands-on execution, with a strong attention to detail and bias toward solving problems.
  • Consistently identifies opportunities to simplify processes, modernize systems, and strengthen the scalability of finance operations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications Prior technical accounting experience in one or more of the following areas is a strong plus:

  • Revenue recognition — ASC 606
  • Transfers and Servicing — ASC 860
  • Consolidations — ASC 810
  • Fair value election — ASC 825
  • Distinguishing Liabilities from Equity — ASC 480
  • Experience with warehouse lending facilities, securitizations, or other specialty lending products.
