Full job description

Overview

Visual Studio Copilot is redefining how millions of developers build, understand, and evolve software inside the world’s most powerful IDE. As a Product Manager 2 - CoreAI on the Visual Studio Copilot team , you will shape intelligent, AI-powered developer experiences that are deeply integrated into Visual Studio, bringing together agents, chat, code completions, and IDE actions into a cohesive, trusted Copilot experience.

This role sits at the intersection of developer productivity, AI platform capabilities, and large-scale IDE ecosystems. You will work across multiple Visual Studio and Copilot teams to drive a unified product vision that helps developers move faster while maintaining quality, control, and trust.

As agents take on more of the work of writing, testing, and debugging code, the IDE's role is changing. Visual Studio has always helped developers understand what their code is doing. Now it also needs to help them see and steer what agents are doing.

We're looking for a Product Manager 2 - CoreAI who thrives in ambiguity: someone who forms a point of view, places focused bets, measures what happens, and moves quickly from learning to action.

Responsibilities

  • Own product strategy and roadmap for key Visual Studio Copilot experiences, balancing near-term execution with long-term platform vision.

  • Engage with customers and partners through feedback sessions, previews, and internal field readiness to ensure Copilot meets real-world developer needs.

  • Understand the competitive landscape (e.g., alternative IDEs and assistants) and help define strategies that differentiate Visual Studio Copilot on trust, depth, and enterprise readiness.

  • Define and evolve end-to-end developer workflows across agents, chat, inline assistance, completions, and IDE entry points to ensure Copilot feels cohesive, predictable, and valuable.

  • Use data and experimentation to evaluate feature impact, iterate quickly, and guide investment decisions, including when to double down and when to stop.

  • Partner closely with engineering, design, research, and data science to align quickly, commit to decisions, and ship high-quality, fast, and stable AI-powered features inside Visual Studio.

  • Drive cross-team alignment across Visual Studio, Copilot, and adjacent AI platform teams to build on shared foundations, reduce fragmentation, and deliver a unified experience.

  • Translate developer needs into clear product requirements, user stories, and success metrics, grounded in real customer pain points and usage signals.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 3+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development OR equivalent experience

  • Experience building apps (especially .NET or C++) using developer tools and processes (Visual Studio, VS Code, Claude Code)

  • Experience working in or with AI/LLMs, including hands-on use of AI coding agents, with an eye for the quality of their results (Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor)

  • Experience working on developer tools and/or frameworks

  • Experience working as a software engineer

  • Experience making product decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving spaces, placing bets before the evidence is complete
