Position Title:Tenure-Track Assistant Professor GDCB

Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology (GDCB) at Iowa State University seeks to hire an assistant professor to start in August 2027. The faculty member should use model organisms such as zebrafish, Drosophila and/or human cell and organoid systems to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the cell and developmental biology of human health and disease. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, developmental and cell biology, cancer biology, neurobiology, stem cell biology, and related fields. Research interests that integrate modern experimental biology, including genome engineering and single cell biology, with emerging computational approaches such as artificial intelligence (AI) will be given priority. The new faculty member will also contribute to undergraduate and graduate education by teaching Biology, Genetics, or Integrated Health Sciences courses and/or developing new offerings in their area of interest that integrates AI, quantitative biology, and modern biomedical research.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent in biological sciences before August 16, 2027

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research experience aligned with position description

  • Well-developed research plan

  • Postdoctoral training with evidence of independent research

  • Strong supporting publications

  • Potential to secure external funding

  • Potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring
