Description Fervo Energy is building the most cost-effective, repeatable geothermal power plants in the world. Achieving this mission requires disciplined financial operations, strong controls, audit-ready documentation, and scalable processes that support Fervo's transition into a public-company operating environment. Joining Fervo means operating at the intersection of energy infrastructure, growth-stage execution, and public-company readiness, where reliability, accountability, and continuous improvement are foundational.
We are seeking a Staff Accountant, General Accounting to support Fervo’s Assistant Controller in executing the monthly close, preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and maintaining audit-ready documentation across multiple entities. This is an excellent early-career role for an accountant who wants to build public-company close and controls experience in a fast-growing energy infrastructure company.
The Staff Accountant, General Accounting will report to the Assistant Controller and support core close and general ledger activities, including cash posting, bank reconciliations, prepaids, accruals, PP&E, intercompany, and G&A allocations. The role requires strong attention to detail, curiosity, accountability, and the ability to learn quickly.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable preparing well-supported entries and reconciliations, responding to reviewer feedback, and following documented procedures that conform to GAAP and SOX requirements. Fervo is scaling rapidly, so this role requires ownership of assigned tasks, crisp communication, a controls mindset, and the ability to work effectively with Accounting, Finance, Operations, Treasury, Tax, and external auditors.
Requirements Responsibilities Month-End Close and General Ledger Support
- Prepare recurring and ad hoc journal entries, including cash posting, prepaids, accruals, PP&E, payroll-related accruals, and G&A allocations, with complete supporting documentation.
- Complete assigned close tasks on schedule within the close calendar and communicate status, dependencies, and blockers to the Assistant Controller.
- Gather support from Accounts Payable, Treasury, Operations Accounting, and other teams to ensure entries are complete, accurate, and properly supported.
- Assist with preparation of monthly flux analyses and account roll forwards for review by the Assistant Controller and Controller.
- Support the use of close management, reconciliation, ERP, and automation tools, and suggest ways to simplify or standardize manual close tasks.
Reconciliations, Controls and Audit Support
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts, including bank reconciliations, and research and clear reconciling items on a timely basis.
- Maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for assigned tasks and update them as processes change.
- Prepare audit and SOX support requests (PBCs) and control evidence for close, reconciliation, allocation, and accrual processes as directed.
- Identify unusual balances, stale reconciling items, and missed accruals, and escalate to the Assistant Controller.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 1-3+ years of accounting experience; internship, public accounting, or general ledger experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of US GAAP, debits and credits, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Proficient Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables) and ability to work accurately with multi-tab workbooks and reporting schedules.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines in a close calendar.
- Clear written communication and ability to document work so reviewers can follow the logic and source data.
- High ownership mindset and willingness to learn new areas of accounting.
Preferred
- CPA candidate or CPA eligibility.
- Internship or early-career experience in public accounting or a public company.
- Experience with FloQast, Quorum, OpenInvoice, or an enterprise ERP.
- Experience in energy, infrastructure, renewable power, or multi-entity environments.
- Interest in geothermal energy and Fervo’s mission.
Success Profile
- Builds audit-ready workpapers and documentation that a reviewer, auditor, or backup owner can easily follow.
- Owns work end-to-end, follows up until reviewer sign-off, and escalates blockers early.
- Communicates with clear action items, deadlines, and business context.
- Uses technology, AI-enabled drafting, and automation thoughtfully while validating outputs and underlying data.
- Contributes to repeatable processes and cross-training so the accounting organization can scale sustainably.
