Position Overview

PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking an experienced Optical Technician 3 to support operations at a leading aerospace and defense manufacturing facility in Woodland Hills, CA. This position is ideal for a skilled optics professional with extensive experience in precision glass polishing, optical fabrication, and quality-focused manufacturing environments.

This role requires a strong attention to detail, experience working with precision measurement equipment, and the ability to produce high-quality optical components to exact specifications.

Work Schedule

9/80 Alternate Work Schedule (A Shift)

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate a variety of precision polishing machines for quantity production glass polishing.

  • Perform super-polishing operations on optical glass surfaces to meet requirements for surface finish, flatness, angles, and other specifications.

  • Select, mount, align, and utilize specialized attachments and standard tooling.

  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.

  • Utilize precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance to quality standards.

  • Perform standard shop calculations and measurements.

  • Monitor product quality and support statistical process control and production quality requirements.

  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment while adhering to established manufacturing procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a glass precision polishing or optical fabrication environment.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment with strict process controls.

  • Proficiency using hand tools and optical measurement equipment, including:

  • Autocollimators

  • Interferometers

  • Digital indicators

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic math proficiency.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ERP systems.

  • Strong visual acuity, especially when working under a microscope.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the workday.

  • Commitment to workplace safety and safe operation of large manufacturing equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining and setting up polishing tables to achieve surface finish and flatness requirements.

  • Ability to participate in process investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Familiarity with:

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • Lean Manufacturing principles

  • Experience supporting process development activities in a team environment.
