Full job description

About Coframe At Coframe, we are building a future where user and agent interfaces can adapt, evolve, and personalize themselves. We are generating revenue, growing rapidly, and trusted by companies you definitely know.

Coframe is a primarily in-person company based in San Francisco, well-capitalized with backing from Khosla Ventures, Nat Friedman, the founder of Android, and others. Our team is small and talent-dense, consisting of competitive programmers, former founders (including our founder who previously co-founded a unicorn), and AI researchers from top institutions who have created some of the most popular open-source code generation projects.

About the role: We’re looking for a Backend System Architect to help build the systems that power Coframe’s platform. This role is based in our San Francisco office, where our team works together five days per week.

You’ll work across our backend infrastructure, data systems, APIs, and AI-powered workflows. This is a high-ownership role for someone who enjoys solving ambiguous technical problems, designing systems from the ground up, and shipping reliable production software quickly.

As an early engineer, you’ll have significant influence over our architecture, engineering practices, and product direction. You’ll work closely with our founders, product engineers, and applied AI team to turn complex product requirements into scalable and reliable systems.

You’re a great fit if you have:

  • 3+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production

  • Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with evolving requirements and limited structure

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience designing distributed or data-intensive systems

  • Proficiency in Python or another modern backend language

  • Experience building APIs, services, databases, and asynchronous workflows

  • A track record of owning meaningful technical projects from conception through production

  • Strong judgment around system design, reliability, and technical tradeoffs

  • Clear communication and a collaborative approach to solving problems

  • A builder mindset—you move quickly, care deeply about quality, and are energized by creating something from the ground up

  • Experience at an early-stage or high-growth startup

  • Familiarity with technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, and Postgres

  • Familiarity with evaluation systems, observability, orchestration, or distributed task execution

  • Experience working on systems where correctness, latency, and reliability directly affect the customer experience

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, build, and operate reliable backend services, APIs

  • Own technical projects from initial architecture through production deployment and ongoing operation

  • Build systems that process high volumes of events, experiments, and customer data

  • Improve the interoperability, reliability, performance, observability, and scalability of our platform

  • Make thoughtful architectural decisions while balancing speed, simplicity, and long-term maintainability

  • Work closely with product and customer-facing teams to translate real-world needs into reusable platform capabilities

  • Help establish engineering standards and shape the technical foundation of the company

Benefits:

  • Flexible (Unlimited) Paid Time Off

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits for you and your family

  • Life Insurance and Disability Benefits

  • 401k Plan with Coframe match

  • Meals covered in-office

  • Gym membership
