Technical Writer / Technical Writing / ONSITE / Houston, TX

Our client is a world-class petrochemical manufacturer and industry leader in polymers and chemical production. Based out of Houston, TX, they are looking to hire a Technical Writer on a Contract basis.

This is an opportunity to support large-scale petrochemical manufacturing operations while working closely with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams. The Technical Writer will play a key role in documenting critical operational knowledge, procedures, and technical processes that support safety, reliability, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate brings extensive technical writing experience within industrial manufacturing environments and can effectively collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation. Candidates will gain exposure to complex process manufacturing operations while contributing to high-impact business and operational initiatives.

Contract Duration: 26 Weeks

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in the petrochemical, refining, or related industrial manufacturing industry

  • 6-8 years of demonstrated technical writing experience supporting engineering, operations, maintenance, or capital project environments

  • 6+ years of manufacturing experience with hands-on knowledge of industrial equipment and process operations

  • Strong working knowledge of refinery and petrochemical process units, equipment systems, operating procedures, and industry terminology

  • More than 5 years of experience with:

  • Microsoft Word

  • Microsoft Excel

  • Microsoft Visio

  • TruView

  • Proven ability to gather information from subject matter experts and translate complex technical concepts into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation

  • Experience developing and maintaining:

  • Operating procedures

  • Maintenance procedures

  • Work instructions

  • Technical manuals

  • Engineering documents

  • Training materials

  • Strong editing, proofreading, document control, and document management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams

  • Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation including operating procedures, maintenance manuals, standards, work instructions, training materials, and engineering documents

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, operations personnel, and project teams to gather technical information

  • Translate complex technical concepts into user-friendly documentation

  • Ensure documentation complies with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices

  • Review and revise existing documents for accuracy, consistency, and completeness

  • Support document control, version management, and change management activities

  • Create and maintain documentation supporting operational excellence, safety, reliability, and compliance initiatives

  • Participate in technical reviews

  • Facilitate document approval workflows
