Position Summary

The Washington Nationals are seeking a Major League Rehab Physical Therapist to lead the clinical rehabilitation of Major League players at the organization’s Spring Training complex in West Palm Beach.

This role will design, execute, and progress individualized rehabilitation plans in partnership with team physicians, Major League Medical, Rehab Strength & Conditioning, and skill staff. The Rehab Physical Therapist will use objective assessments and player responses to guide clinical progressions while integrating treatment, physical preparation, and baseball activity into one return-to-performance plan.

The ideal candidate views rehabilitation as an opportunity to restore health and address limitations that can help players return at or above their pre-injury performance level. Clear communication and ownership of player transitions are essential to this role.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead clinical evaluations, treatment, and rehabilitation programming for Major League players assigned to West Palm Beach.

  • Establish each player’s current clinical status, rehabilitation priorities, and progression criteria in coordination with physicians and Major League Medical.

  • Use organizational testing protocols to monitor recovery, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and guide progressions or modifications.

  • Partner with Rehab S&C to connect clinical rehabilitation with the development of strength, power, movement, and conditioning capacity.

  • Collaborate with pitching and position-player staff to integrate throwing, hitting, running, and defensive activity within clinical restrictions.

  • Maintain a documented return-to-performance plan with clear responsibilities, current status, objective progress, next milestones, and barriers.

  • Coordinate handoffs when players begin rehab assignments, return to the Major League club, or continue rehabilitation remotely.

  • Contribute to organizational rehabilitation standards, staff education, and the evaluation of new methods that improve care and player outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Degree in physical therapy and eligibility for Florida physical therapy licensure.

  • Experience managing orthopedic and postoperative rehabilitation in professional baseball or a comparable high-performance environment.

  • Strong understanding of baseball demands and the integration of clinical rehabilitation with physical and skill development.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply objective testing and clinical reasoning to individualized rehabilitation.

  • Strong communication and organization, including coordination with staff working in other locations.

  • Current CPR/AED certification; sports or orthopedic specialty certification is a plus.

  • Spanish proficiency is a plus.
