Position Summary

The Washington Nationals are seeking a Rehab Strength and Conditioning Coordinator to lead the design, implementation, and progression of individualized strength and conditioning programs for players across the organization undergoing medical or performance rehabilitation at the Washington Nationals’ Complex in West Palm Beach.

This role will collaborate with the Medical, Strength and Conditioning, Pitching, Hitting, Nutrition, and Mental Skills departments to ensure seamless continuity from injury through return to performance across both the Major and Minor League levels. Medical staff will establish the diagnosis, medical restrictions, and clinical readiness, while the Rehab Strength and Conditioning Coordinator will own rebuilding each player’s physical capacity within the overall return-to-performance plan. The Coordinator will also support organizational initiatives and contribute to research and process improvement. This position plays a critical role in driving high performance, player availability, and long-term player development within the Washington Nationals’ system.

Primary Responsibilities

Player Rehabilitation and Return to Performance

  • Lead the development, execution, and progression of individualized rehab strength and conditioning programs for players across the organization.

  • Own the progression of strength, power, movement, conditioning, and workload capacity within each player’s return-to-performance plan consistent with the medical restrictions and clinical readiness established by the medical staff.

  • Collect, interpret, and apply objective strength, power, movement, workload, and conditioning data to guide programming and progression decisions.

  • Own the transition and handoff process when players leave West Palm Beach, begin a rehab assignment, return to an affiliate or the Major League team, or continue rehabilitation remotely.

  • Lead offseason program creation and check-ins for players rehabilitating remotely or transitioning out of rehab.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Player Management

  • Work daily with Medical, Athletic Training, Pitching, Hitting, Defense, and Nutrition to integrate lifting, conditioning, running, throwing, hitting, and defensive workloads into one player-specific rehabilitation plan.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and provide timely, decision-relevant updates that clearly communicate each player’s current plan, objective progress, next milestone, and any barriers.

  • Coordinate with the Major League Strength and Conditioning Coaches, S&C Coordinator, and Assistant S&C Coordinator to ensure philosophical alignment, maintain consistent organizational standards, and contribute to department-wide initiatives, research, and system development.

Organizational Systems

  • Lead the development of organizational best practices for rehab strength and conditioning progressions, testing batteries, physical readiness criteria, and return-to-performance models.

  • Support Spring Training strength and conditioning operations for the Major and Minor League departments.

Qualifications

  • Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Related Field

  • Certification through the NSCA (CSCS)

  • CPR/AED/First Aid

  • Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Related Field

  • Experience using a variety of sport science devices such as 1080 Motion Devices, VALD Ecosystem, GymAware, etc

  • 2 years of strength and conditioning experience in the rehab setting (baseball experience preferred)
