About this role

Lead the North America Insights agenda, with primary accountability for building a clear, forward-looking view of industry performance, market share and competitive dynamics. Translate internal and external data into actionable insights that explain how Diageo and the industry are performing, why performance is changing, where competitors are winning, and what the business should do in response.

Serve as a trusted thought partner to North America Executive leadership, owning industry outlooks, performance diagnostics, competitive intelligence and strategic deep dives that inform strategy, planning, resource allocation and portfolio choices. Complement this core mandate with consumer and cultural insight, partnering with Marketing to translate changing consumer attitudes, behaviors, needs and occasions into stronger brand, innovation and communications decisions.

As the leader of North America Insights, raise the quality and impact of insight across the organization - moving beyond what happened to why it happened, what will happen next, and what Diageo should do about it.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the North America industry and performance insights agenda, establishing the authoritative view of beverage alcohol performance and Diageo's competitive position across categories, brands, markets, channels and price segments.

  • Own industry share tracking and performance diagnostics, integrating syndicated, proprietary and internal data to explain drivers of value, volume, share and price/mix and identify implications for the business.

  • Lead competitive intelligence, building a systematic view of competitor performance, strategies, portfolios, investments and route-to-market moves and translating these into recommended actions for Diageo.

  • Develop forward-looking industry, category and market perspectives, including long-range forecasts and scenarios that inform strategy, annual planning, resource allocation and portfolio choices.

  • Serve as a trusted thought partner to North America Executive leadership and lead high-priority strategic deep dives, bringing an independent, fact-based perspective to critical business choices.

  • Lead the North America consumer insights agenda in partnership with Marketing, translating consumer attitudes, behaviors, needs, occasions and cultural dynamics into implications for brand strategy, positioning, innovation, communications and portfolio choices.

  • Connect market data, consumer research and advanced analytics into simple, actionable insight, partnering across Strategy, Marketing, Commercial and Finance to embed insights in key decisions.

  • Support Executive, Board and Investor Relations requirements and continuously improve the North America insight ecosystem, including simplification and automation of lower-value reporting.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing Insights team, building analytical, consumer, strategic and commercial capability.

Key Success Measures

  • Clear, trusted and forward-looking view of industry performance, market share and Diageo's competitive position across North America.

  • Quality and impact of insights in shaping Executive decisions, strategic choices, resource allocation and business performance.

  • Impact of consumer insight on brand strategy, innovation, portfolio and Marketing decisions.

  • Strong partnership and credibility across Strategy, Marketing, Commercial, Finance and Executive leadership.

  • Increased ability to anticipate industry, consumer and competitive trends, with a simpler, higher-value insight ecosystem.

  • Development of a high-performing Insights team and stronger insight capability across the organization.

Key Competencies

Industry, Competitive & Strategic Insights

  • Deep understanding of industry and competitive performance and the drivers of market share, category and brand performance.

  • Ability to synthesize multiple, imperfect data sources into clear insights, implications and strategic recommendations.

  • Expertise in forecasting, competitive intelligence and strategic analysis, with strong commercial and financial judgement.

Consumer Insights & Analytics

  • Strong consumer orientation and understanding of qualitative and quantitative research approaches.

  • Ability to connect consumer attitudes and behaviors with cultural, category and marketplace dynamics.

  • Strong quantitative capability across syndicated, consumer, financial and internal business data.

Leadership & Influence

  • Trusted thought partner with intellectual courage to challenge assumptions and influence senior leaders.

  • Exceptional executive communication and storytelling skills, translating complexity into simple, compelling recommendations.

  • Strong cross-functional and people leadership, coaching and talent-development capability.

Experience/skills required:

  • 8+ years of professional experience across insights, strategy, analytics, consulting, market intelligence, consumer research or related disciplines, with increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Demonstrated experience leading industry performance/share analysis, competitive intelligence and strategic insight work and translating complex data into recommendations for senior leadership.

  • Strong understanding of consumer goods and drivers of brand, category and commercial performance; beverage alcohol or CPG experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience across syndicated market data, competitive intelligence, consumer research and advanced analytics, including partnership with Marketing and brand teams.

  • Ability to lead ambiguous, high-priority projects in imperfect data environments and communicate clear, compelling Executive-level insights.

  • Proven people leadership experience and ability to develop high-performing analytical and insight talent.
