12 for Life Career Development Specialist
REPORTS TO: 12 for Life Coordinator JOB OBJECTIVES (Purpose of the position) Responsible for developing, delivering, and coaching employment, essential life skills based curriculum, and workshops for students in the 12 for Life program. The goal of this position is to assist students with awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary to successfully achieve their high school diploma and transition to higher education, enlistment or employment
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Functions essential to attaining job objectives) Strategic Goal Area I – Student Achievement
- Develop respectful, collaborative relationships with all students using a student-centered and learning-focused approach to build trust
- Set clear expectations and develop assessments with feedback that tie to the transition from student to employee
- Develop engaging, interactive learning sessions and workshops using a variety of delivery methods to assist students with employability and essential life skills
- Work with students to develop organizational skills and enhance self-management skills to assist success both in the classroom, at work, and future employment
- Work directly with senior students on resume building and interviewing skills, providing feedback and coaching to equip students with skills necessary for career interviews
- Assess student readiness to meet completion requirements for GeorgiaBEST participation certificate
- Promote student engagement and monitor student progress
- Support students with encouragement
Strategic Goal Area II – Stakeholder Engagement & Loyalty
- Work collaboratively with instructors, Southwire personnel, and parents to ensure student success
- Work collaboratively with industry partners to schedule guest speakers, networking fairs, and mock interviews for students to implement employability skill.
- Coordinate public relations aspects of the 12 for Life program in collaboration with the 12 for Life and Southwire Leadership Teams
- Develop strategies to introduce students to opportunities to be enrolled, employed, or enlisted upon graduation
- Promote 12 for Life by managing social media platforms
Strategic Goal Area III – Efficient and Effective Organizational Processes
- Understand the manufacturing processes at the 12 for Life facility and other local businesses and industry
- Represent and serve as a community spokesperson for the program
- Maintain records in School Links
Strategic Goal Area IV – Continuous System and School Improvement
- Recruit students for STEM School at 12 for Life
- Provide leadership for maintaining and improving attendance
- Work with Coordinator to assist with Interview and Orientation days
OTHER EXPECTATIONS
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia
- Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance /timeliness
- Complete assignments and requirements on time and in compliance with directions
- Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly
- Maintain confidentiality of information and records for students and staff
- Communicate effectively with students, peers, administration, parents and public
- Exhibit pleasant behavior and project a positive image when dealing with stakeholders and the public
- Follow and enforce regulations concerning student conduct, discipline, and attendance
- Use exemplary instructional and motivational techniques
JOB STANDARDS (Minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job functions)
- Bachelor's degree, required
- Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate or the ability to obtain one
- Experience working with economically disadvantaged youth from diverse backgrounds (preferred)
- Understand the multiplicity of social services available in the community to support students at risk of not graduating (preferred)
