RESIDENCY: Candidates must have been a legal resident of the County of Franklin or a neighboring County (Clinton, Essex, Hamilton and St. Lawrence) for at least 30 days immediately preceding the date of the written test. Local preference in certification may be given per Civil Service Rule VII. Title: Probation Officer 1 ORProbation Officer 1 Trainee 1 Base Salary or Hourly: Officer 1 - $57,762-2026 OR Officer 1 Trainee - $52,153-2026 Department: Probation Minimum Qualifications: Civil Service Eligible There is currently an eligible list in effect from which candidate(s) will be contacted for their interest in the vacancy. If a candidate has previously held this title permanently and wishes to ask for reinstatement (for permanent positions only), contact the Personnel Department for instructions. OR Provisional Appointment Pending Civil Service Exam to be announced at a later date Probation Officer 1 Qualifications - (Copy of college transcript (unofficial is accepted) must accompany application) A) Satisfactory completion of a Probation Officer 1 traineeship; or B) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a graduate degree in social work, social sciences, education, administration, law, criminal justice, or a related field; or C) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees, with a Bachelors degree or higher with at least thirty (30) credit hours in the social or behavioral sciences and two (2) years of experience in counseling, law enforcement, juvenile or criminal justice, education, or casework in a probation, law enforcement, juvenile or criminal justice, corrections, community corrections, parole, social services, mental health, social work or other public or private human services agency. Note: Course work at the graduate degree level in social work, social sciences, education, administration, law, criminal justice, or a related field may be substituted for work experience for a maximum of one (1) year of experience. Special Requirement: (Copy of drivers license must accompany application) Where required, possession of a current drivers license or the ability to otherwise meet the transportation requirements of the position.
