Student Health Services at UAlbany sits within the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment and provides compassionate and inclusive healthcare to all registered UAlbany students.

The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will provide quality medical and gynecological services to a diverse student population as part of an outpatient clinic and will participate in health education and community outreach activities related to the University Student Health Services.

This is a unique opportunity to practice in a dynamic university health setting that prioritizes quality, access, and whole-person care over high-volume, throughput-driven models. This role is ideal for a clinician who enjoys working with emerging adults and is motivated to contribute to both patient care and the systems that support it.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage medical and gynecological concerns, which includes:

  • Assessment and diagnosis, providing patient health education, ordering laboratory tests, radiology tests and prescribing medications, including birth control.

  • Manage and respond daily to EMR tasks from nursing and patients.

  • Keep timely and meticulous health records

  • Provide physicals for sports, study abroad and academic-related activities

  • Evaluate MMR/TB status regarding administrative health requirement

  • Refer to specialty or emergency care as appropriate

  • Work with University Counseling and Psychological Services for referring and receiving referrals

  • Liaison with Albany County Department of Health for reporting and management of certain communicable diseases

  • Work inter-departmentally with other UAlbany departments on an as needed basis.

  • Participate in orientation and other outreach for students

  • Provide health screening and education and assist in the development and implementation of preventive healthcare

  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to Medical Director or Designated Physician

  • May supervise employees as assigned (if no direct reports at time of filling position)

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and electronic N.Y.S. prescription prescribing procedures.

  • Demonstrated skill in providing effective care to diverse range of personal and cultural backgrounds.

  • Ability to conduct efficient and effective triage and provide recommendations for medical care as well as referrals for other related services.

  • Leadership and organizational skills, including the ability to provide leadership, oversight, and direction to assure Student Health Center goals, activities, and practices are consistent with and contribute to the department and University's goals and strategies.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Commitment to cultural humility and ongoing development of multicultural competency in the context of providing inclusive and equitable services.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • Active Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license to practice in New York State

  • Current Board Certification as FNP or ANP or PA-C.

  • Two years of post-graduate office-based primary care and/or urgent care experience

  • Experience providing office-based primary medical and gynecologic care, including diagnosis and evidence-based evaluation and treatment.

  • Experience providing medical care to a diverse adolescent/young adult population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience working in Urgent Care settings.

  • 1-2 years of experience working in College Health.

  • 1-2 years of experience working with culturally diverse, adolescent, young adult population.

Working Environment:

  • Typical medical office environment

  • Ability to be a professional resource for office staff from front desk, to nursing to lab staff

  • Ability to provide both in person and telehealth medical care

  • Ability to work with technology, including EMR and emails
