Full job description

Union County College is a public comprehensive community college providing quality, affordable, accessible educational programs that serve the greater Union County region. It is the oldest of New Jerseys 19 Associate Degree Colleges, serving both career-minded and transfer-oriented students since 1933. The College enrolls almost 30,000 credit, non-credit and continuing education students and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Many programs lead to the Associate in Arts, Science and Applied Science degrees.

General Description:

Assists library users with circulation, reserves, periodicals, interlibrary loans, photocopying services, and general information regarding the libraries.

Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides users with information regarding library hours, services, and policies and procedures, and directional questions and other college information.

  • Charges and discharges library materials to patrons

  • Handles loans between libraries through Interlibrary Loan ( ILL ).

  • Sets up and maintains reserves on the automated library system

  • Participates in planning process for library events or programs

  • Prepares correspondence and reports related to circulation functions.

  • Operates all library equipment to assist users

  • Organizes and reshelves returned items including shelf-reading and inventory

  • Performs tasks such as answering phone calls and organizing files

  • Helps users with scanner and photocopy equipment and refills paper, as needed.

  • Assists with special projects, as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education Requirements:

  • Associate degree or higher required.

Experience:

  • Experience working in a library or related setting, preferred.

Competencies and Skills Required:

  • Experience working in a library or related setting, preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

  • Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  • Some travel required.
