Clinical Donation Coordinator

Job Summary

A Clinical Donation Coordinator is responsible for the evaluation and management of suitable organ donors in addition to the placement of all recovered organs per ConnectLife policies. This person will also develop and maintain active participation within assigned hospitals related to the initiation and completion of the donation process.

Salary:

Full time, Exempt, $90,000.00 annually

Schedule:

  • 28 scheduled 12-hour shifts over a 6-week period, rotating 12-hour day and night shifts (8:30am-8:30pm / 8:30pm-8:30am). Some charting, meetings, and case work may be performed remotely.

Education Requirements:

  • Associate degree or certification in nursing or related health care field required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year emergency medicine or critical care experience strongly preferred.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Evaluate imminent death referrals for organ donation potential.

  2. Manage on-site referral, authorization, donor maintenance, and recovery activities at a hospital when there is a potential donor. Oversee all organ procurement activities from evaluation through recovery along with the allocation of organs.

  3. Follow the donor management guidelines approved by the ConnectLife Medical Director to maximize donor potential. If needed, engage physicians, practitioners, transplant surgeons, ConnectLife Medical Director, and ConnectLife Administrator on call (AOC) as resources for interventions and plan of care to maximize donor potential.

  4. Provide ongoing education to administrative and clinical hospital staff regarding the organ donation process.

  5. Assist in information-sharing activities with potential donor families and coordinate the authorization process with the authorizing individual.

  6. Ensure that all medical/legal requirements are met before donor surgery.

  7. Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and ConnectLife policies for organ recovery.

  8. Maintain donor records to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and ConnectLife policies.

  9. Provide follow-up on all pre and post recovery donor lab work, cultures autopsy, etc as needed.

  10. Provide feedback to the donor hospital, donor family, and others as necessary.

  11. Participate in Hospital Development activity and Medical Record Review as necessary.

  12. Remain proactive to stay informed and up to date regarding changes in the field of organ donation and allocation.

  13. Maintain/obtain any necessary certification and/or education required for the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills required, including communicating with diverse individuals.

  • Must be adaptable and flexible to change with the ability to think critically in solving problems with a continuous focus on customer service.

  • Medical terminology required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and data entry required.

  • Must be detail oriented, and have the ability to remain accurate while under pressure.

  • Must be results oriented, and highly organized with the ability to think logically, manage time effectively, prioritize and multi-task.

  • Must be able to remain professional in making decisions and handling confidential information.

  • Must have patience and maintain focus through interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress.

  • Must have professional appearance and demeanor.

  • Must have a valid NYS Drivers license and reliable transportation.

  • Local travel required.
