About the job

Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Using your extensive technical and leadership expertise, you manage various Engineering-specific programs and teams.

As the Head of GEN Customer Network Solution (CNS), you will lead, mentor, and scale this multidisciplinary organization of Technical Program Managers, Program Managers (BRMs), and Network Engineers (CSEs), while serving as a core member of the GEN Senior Leadership Team (SLT). You will direct the end-to-end strategic customer portfolio—owning executive relationships across Alphabet Product Areas, governing annual demand and capacity planning (AOP), enforcing Out-of-Plan (OOP) intake and financial governance, and proactively shaping customer demand toward standardized, high-autonomy NextGEN network services rather than bespoke engineering.

Combining executive business acumen with technical judgment, you will oversee both strategic partnership governance (executive business reviews, customer reviews, customer health scores, and represent the customer programs) and customer engineering execution (technical requirements lifecycle, proofs of concept, and product lifecycle integration). You will also advocate for organizational transformation and operational velocity, leveraging AI-driven workflows to significantly improve delivery cycle times while scaling GEN’s impact across Alphabet.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $240000 - $333000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead a global organization of TPMs and Network Engineers in customer-aligned pods, setting OKRs and shaping strategy on the GEN Senior Leadership Team and represent CNS in executive forums.

  • Direct the customer partnership lifecycle across Alphabet. Build VP-level alliances to translate business and AI drivers into scalable network roadmaps, shaping demand toward standardized NextGEN services.

  • Lead annual demand forecasting, capacity planning, and the multi-hundred-million-dollar AOP budget alignment. Enforce rigorous governance over Out-of-Plan work and cost recovery to maximize ROI.

  • Provide technical oversight to translate complex requirements (e.g., high-density AI/ML labs, WAN) into robust architectures, embedding the "Represent the Customer" across GEN Product Lifecycle reviews.

  • Advocate AI-driven transformation to achieve 50%+ cycle-time reductions. Act as the senior escalation point for P0/P1 delivery risks, aligning cross-functional teams to ensure successful customer outcomes.
