Director of Facilities & Operations

Building Environments. Supporting Lives. Leading with Purpose.

At Richmond Community Services (RCS), everything we do is rooted in creating opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to live full, meaningful lives with dignity, comfort, and respect. The environments in which people live and work are an important part of that commitment.

We are seeking an accomplished, strategic Director of Facilities to lead an integrated operational portfolio spanning Housekeeping, Laundry, Maintenance, Transportation, and Purchasing across our multi-location organization.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity and a key member of the Senior Management Team. The Director will bring together people, resources, facilities, and financial strategy to ensure these essential functions operate efficiently, consistently, and with a focus on quality.

We are looking for more than a traditional facilities manager. We want a business-minded leader who can balance long-term planning with day-to-day execution, develop strong management teams, oversee complex projects, manage significant budgets, optimize workforce resources, negotiate contracts, and drive measurable operational improvements. The ideal candidate brings an executive mindset, sound financial judgment, and the ability to translate organizational priorities into meaningful results.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Integrated Facilities & Operational Leadership

  • Provide strategic oversight of Housekeeping, Laundry, Maintenance, Transportation, and Purchasing.

  • Establish consistent operating standards, performance expectations, and accountability across all functions and locations.

  • Evaluate service delivery, identify inefficiencies, and implement sustainable improvements.

Financial Management & Procurement

  • Develop and manage operating budgets, capital expenditures, forecasts, and financial reporting.

  • Apply job costing, cost analysis, and labor productivity measures to strengthen financial performance.

  • Lead purchasing strategies, competitive bidding, vendor selection, contract negotiations, and inventory management.

  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing power, control costs, and maximize organizational resources.

Capital Projects & Infrastructure

  • Direct capital improvements, renovations, equipment replacement, preventive maintenance, and long-term infrastructure planning.

  • Manage projects from scope development and budgeting through procurement, execution, and completion.

  • Oversee contractors, vendors, timelines, quality, and project expenditures.

Workforce Planning & Leadership

  • Lead and develop managers, supervisors, and frontline teams across all functional areas.

  • Evaluate staffing models, workforce capacity, scheduling, and resource allocation across multiple locations.

  • Establish performance measures, productivity expectations, and management accountability.

  • Build a culture of ownership, responsiveness, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

  • Maintain oversight of facilities-related regulatory requirements, inspections, safety standards, and corrective action plans.

  • Ensure appropriate operational controls, documentation, fleet management, and emergency preparedness.

  • Proactively identify risks and develop solutions that support safe, reliable, uninterrupted operations.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Facilities Management, Operations Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field required.

  • 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in facilities, operations, property management, or a related discipline; 5 years of people management experience.

  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple operational functions across geographically dispersed locations.

  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, job costing, cost controls, and resource allocation.

  • Significant experience with capital projects, procurement, vendor management, and contract negotiations.

  • Proven ability to lead managers and teams, develop workforce strategies, and drive organizational improvements.

  • Exceptional analytical, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in healthcare, human services, nonprofit, hospitality, or other complex, multi-site environments is highly valued.

Why Join Richmond Community Services?

At RCS, we believe great leadership deserves an environment where people can grow, contribute, and make a difference. This is an opportunity to bring your executive-level business and operational expertise to an organization where your work has a meaningful impact on the lives of the people we support.

We offer a competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Company Vehicle Access: Access to a company vehicle for business-related travel between RCS locations.

  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance options.

  • 403(b) Retirement Plan: An employer contribution of 5% of eligible compensation, regardless of whether you contribute.

  • Generous Vacation: Four weeks of vacation to start, in addition to paid holidays and sick time.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA): Options to help manage eligible healthcare and dependent care expenses.

  • Life Insurance: Employer-provided life insurance coverage.

  • Long-Term Disability (LTD): Income protection through long-term disability coverage.

  • Leadership & Influence: Membership on the Senior Management Team, with the opportunity to contribute to organizational strategy, investment decisions, and long-term planning.

  • Meaningful Mission: The opportunity to make a lasting difference by ensuring that the homes, programs, and environments supporting people with developmental disabilities are safe, welcoming, and well-maintained.

At Richmond, operational excellence and compassionate service go hand in hand. We are looking for a leader who wants to build strong teams, improve how things work, and contribute to something bigger than the department itself.

Bring your leadership. Build something meaningful. Make an impact at RCS.
