Full job description

Job Title: Accounting ManagerLocation: Binghamton, NYReports To: Controller Employment Type: Full-Time, ExemptAnnual Salary: $85,000 - $95,000

Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager plays a key role in supporting the organization's financial management and accounting operations. This position is responsible for helping manage day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and supporting financial reporting, budgeting, and audit processes. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and leadership ability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the month-end and year-end close processes

  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, and regulatory requirements

  • Ensure design and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting

  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed asset accounting

  • Support the Controller in preparing budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses

  • Coordinate and prepare documentation for audits

  • Supervise accounting staff, provide training and mentoring as needed

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices

  • Assist with tax filings, reporting, and coordination with external tax advisors

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and reporting

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's or CPA preferred)

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls

  • Experience with accounting software (e.g.,Great Plains, etc.)

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

  • Leadership experience and ability to mentor junior staff

Preferred Skills:

  • CPA certification (or actively pursuing)

  • Experience in retail and oil & gas industries

  • Proficiency in Excel, financial modeling, and dashboard tools (e.g., Power BI)
