Full job description

  • Location: On-site, Berkeley, CA

  • Contract: Under a Prime Contract with the U.S. Department of Energy

  • Compensation: $90/hour

  • Employment Type: 1 Year contract (With possibility of extension or conversion based on performance and organizational needs)

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Safety Professionals to support a major DOE capital project delivering a next-generation soft x-ray light source, up to 1,000x brighter than the current facility. You'll be an integrated member of the project's safety team, helping keep a world-class scientific facility safe through design, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate hazards across construction, industrial, electrical, radiological, and hazardous-material work

  • Support work planning & control, including review of work packages and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)

  • Conduct field safety walkthroughs, observations, and readiness verifications

  • Participate in engineering/design reviews and readiness reviews

  • Develop and maintain safety documentation (procedures, plans, hazard analyses, technical reports)

  • Support regulatory compliance and DOE oversight reviews

  • Investigate incidents/near misses and drive corrective actions and lessons learned

  • Collaborate closely with internal safety, radiation protection, engineering, and facilities teams

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience in safety management on large construction or complex technical projects, ideally governed by DOE O 413.3B or similar standards

  • Experience at DOE, nuclear, accelerator, or comparable facilities strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with radiological, lead, industrial, and construction hazard controls

  • Strong communication skills for coordinating across technical and safety teams

  • Ability to work both in the field and in a planning/documentation capacity
