About the Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional career development services for students enrolled in undergraduate programs in the College of Business and Economics (CBE). Through student career advising and events, this position helps students explore career interests, build skills, and connect with post-graduate opportunities for employment and graduate school outcomes.

Working collaboratively with students, faculty, alumni, employers, campus partners, and the business community, the position supports student success and career readiness in alignment with the CBE Strategic Plan and AACSB accreditation expectations. Timely career placement is essential to the mission of the college, and this position plays an important role in helping students achieve their professional goals and serve as change agents to society.

This is an in-person, on-campus position located at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

35% - Design, coordinate, and deliver career-related programs, services, resources, and events that support the professional development of CBE undergraduate students.

  • Planning and facilitating career-related programming and initiatives. Examples may include employer information sessions, employer site visits, networking events, speed networking events, etiquette seminars, interview preparation workshops, mentorship activities, and similar programs.

  • Maintaining a CBE career activities calendar that is shared with students.

  • Creating and disseminating career-related communications and social media content.

  • Developing student resources, handouts, templates, and trainings for career exploration and job preparation.

  • Designing pathways that help students learn about and utilize career technology resources and career management platforms.

  • Actively engage in CBE career event promotions and career engagement and outcome tracking.

  • Supporting undergraduate career mentorship initiatives of the Dean’s Office.

  • Aligning and supporting other CBE career activities as appropriate (e.g., Professional Career Readiness (PCR) Program, departmental initiatives, etc.).

35% - Provide individualized and group career advising that helps CBE students explore, prepare for, and pursue employment, internship, and graduate school opportunities.

  • Providing scheduled and drop-in career advising services. This may include résumé and cover letter preparation.

  • Assisting students with career exploration.

  • Preparing students for internship and job searches, graduate school planning, interviewing, networking, and other job skills.

  • Helping students develop and implement personalized plans for successful post-graduation outcomes.

  • Supporting relevant student opportunities for peer career advising, career ambassador initiatives, and other student career development efforts.

  • Maintaining current knowledge of workforce trends, employer needs, career development best practices, and NACE career readiness competencies.

10% - Provide college and university partners with data and recommendations to advance CBE student career success and college career targets.

  • Meeting periodically with CBE leadership, faculty, staff, student organizations, campus-wide Career Services, and other university partners on career-related initiatives.

  • Tracking and reporting career outcomes quarterly that culminates in an annual report. The report should include analysis, highlights, and recommendations about improvements toward graduate school placements, student participation, employer engagement, and overall program effectiveness.

  • Providing and supporting necessary CBE reporting related to student success, career readiness, and career outcomes for accreditation and strategic planning purposes.

20% - Develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders that expand CBE student success opportunities for employment, internship, mentoring, networking, and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with key WWU internal units and CBE external communities to engage employers, alumni, advisory board members, professional associations, study abroad programs, and community partners.

  • Assisting where appropriate in the identification and the cultivation of internship, employment, mentoring, networking, and experiential learning opportunities aligned with CBE academic programs and student interests.

  • Representing CBE Career Services at employer, university, and community events.

  • Facilitating connections between students and employers through recruiting, networking, mentoring, and other career-related activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Student Affairs, Counseling, Human Resources, Communications, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Three years of professional experience in career services, recruiting, employer relations, student advising, workforce development, human resources, student affairs, or a closely related field.

  • Demonstrated ability to advise, coach, mentor, or support individuals in achieving educational, professional, or career-related goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with students, employers, alumni, faculty, staff, and community partners.

  • Strong organizational, project management, and time-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Knowledge of business career pathways and employment opportunities relevant to undergraduate business students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.

  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in career services, recruiting, employer relations, student advising, workforce development, or a related field.

  • Experience working with undergraduate students in a higher education setting.

  • Experience developing and facilitating programs, workshops, events, mentoring programs, or employer engagement initiatives.

  • Experience building partnerships with employers, alumni, professional associations, or community organizations.

  • Experience using career management systems, mentoring platforms, CRM systems, student success technologies, or similar technology resources.

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting data to assess program effectiveness and support continuous improvement.

  • Familiarity with NACE Career Readiness Competencies, career development best practices, and current employment trends. [naceweb.org], [sunypoly.edu]

  • Understanding of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and their impact on career development, recruiting, and workforce readiness.
