Full job description

Your opportunity

At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us challenge the status quo and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

Engineering Operations is responsible for the engineering, deployment, support, reliability, and operational excellence of cybersecurity platforms that protect Charles Schwab's enterprise environment. The team serves as the bridge between Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Engineering, and Application Engineering by ensuring security technologies are deployed, monitored, maintained, and optimized at scale.

As a Security Engineer within Engineering Operations, you will design, implement, automate, support, and continuously improve enterprise security platforms across enterprise and vendor-hosted environments. You will partner closely with cybersecurity teams, engineering partners, vendors, and business stakeholders to improve platform reliability, increase operational efficiency, strengthen security controls, and reduce organizational risk.

The successful candidate will support enterprise cybersecurity services protecting tens of thousands of endpoints and users across a complex technology environment.

This role requires a strong technical foundation in systems administration, platform engineering, automation, troubleshooting, production support, and participation in on-call support rotations within a highly regulated enterprise environment.

  • Engineer, deploy, support, maintain, and continuously improve enterprise cybersecurity platforms throughout the technology lifecycle.

  • Act as the primary engineering owner for assigned cybersecurity platforms, responsible for operational health, availability, lifecycle management, roadmap planning, upgrades, risk management, documentation, and continuous improvement.

  • Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure supporting cybersecurity applications and services across enterprise environments.

  • Monitor platform health, availability, performance, deployment status, and security compliance through dashboards, alerting, observability solutions, operational reporting, and executive-ready metrics that support risk-based decision making.

  • Support enterprise security agent deployment strategies, health monitoring, validation activities, deployment governance, and operational reporting across endpoint platforms.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative improvements that enhance platform reliability and resiliency.

  • Develop and maintain automation solutions, integrations, workflows, and operational processes that improve deployment, monitoring, validation, reporting, operational efficiency, and service delivery.

  • Partner with Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Engineering, Application Engineering, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors to resolve platform issues, support upgrades, and improve service reliability.

  • Support change management, release planning, deployment governance, validation activities, operational readiness reviews, and maintenance activities for cybersecurity platforms.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge articles, operational procedures, support runbooks, standards, and platform support documentation.

  • Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation supporting critical cybersecurity platforms and services, including incident response, troubleshooting, service restoration activities, and post-incident analysis.

  • Contribute technical expertise through mentoring, knowledge sharing, cross-functional collaboration, and technical leadership within the organization.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve platform reliability, automation, operational efficiency, scalability, resiliency, and overall security posture.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise applications, infrastructure platforms, or cybersecurity technologies in large-scale production environments.

  • 3+ years of experience supporting Linux and Windows server environments, including system administration, security hardening, authentication services, troubleshooting, and automation.

  • Experience supporting enterprise cybersecurity technologies such as endpoint protection, threat detection, vulnerability management, security orchestration, data protection, phishing defense, API security, or related security platforms.

  • Experience planning, deploying, configuring, upgrading, maintaining, and supporting highly available applications or services in enterprise environments with resiliency, disaster recovery, and business continuity requirements.

  • Experience supporting enterprise applications, infrastructure, or security platforms serving thousands of endpoints, users, or systems.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions using scripting, APIs, workflow orchestration, Microsoft Power Automate, Power Platform, or similar technologies to improve operational efficiency, reporting, monitoring, integrations, and service delivery.

  • Experience utilizing APIs, scripting, and automation technologies to integrate enterprise applications and streamline operational processes.

  • Experience implementing, supporting, or utilizing monitoring, alerting, dashboarding, observability, operational reporting, and platform health reporting solutions.

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills involving operating systems, application services, networking, authentication technologies, system integrations, and distributed application architectures.

  • Experience supporting containerized applications, application integrations, vendor-hosted services, SaaS platforms, or related technologies.

  • Experience using collaboration and documentation platforms such as Jira, Confluence, or similar tools for operational support and knowledge management.

  • Experience operating within ITIL-based operational, incident, problem, and change management processes.

  • Experience supporting production applications or infrastructure in a 24x7 operational environment, including participation in on-call support rotations and response to critical incidents.

  • Strong written, verbal, documentation, and presentation communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise cybersecurity platforms within endpoint security, threat detection, data protection, security operations, security automation, application security, or related domains.

  • Experience supporting large-scale endpoint deployments, endpoint monitoring, operational reporting, software distribution, validation activities, and platform lifecycle management.

  • Experience supporting enterprise security platform integrations using APIs, webhooks, automation frameworks, or workflow orchestration technologies.

  • Experience working directly with software vendors to troubleshoot issues, coordinate upgrades, resolve production incidents, and improve platform performance and reliability.

  • Experience implementing operational metrics, platform health reporting, executive reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted workflows, automation platforms, orchestration technologies, or intelligent process automation to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.

  • Experience supporting mission-critical platforms within highly regulated environments and compliance frameworks.

  • Experience supporting enterprise release management, deployment governance, operational readiness reviews, and change management processes.

  • Relevant industry certifications such as security, infrastructure, operating system, automation, platform engineering, or related technology certifications.
