Job Description

The Intern, Mechatronics Engineer is responsible for the development and safe deployment of industrial vehicles from a hardware and safety perspective. This position strives to solve business problems using innovation modeling, mathematical modeling, engineering principals, automation/robotics, Lean Six Sigma, computer programming, business knowledge, or other advanced analytical skills. The Intern, Mechatronics Engineer is involved in the research, development, and prototyping of autonomous systems encompassing areas such as computer vision, object recognition, path planning and following, and electro-mechanical systems and devices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a research project during the internship that focuses on key research and development problems.

  • Assist in setup and maintain design of software modules and overall architecture.

  • Perform ad-hoc requests to review, develop, and/or analyze operational or department specific processes.

  • Design, develop, and enhance electro-mechanical systems and mechatronic devices.

  • Create automated systems and collaborate with software teams to control them.

  • Program vehicle controllers using various tools and utilities.

  • Use CAD software, like SolidWorks, to model electro-mechanical hardware.

  • Create and troubleshoot electrical schematics.

  • Monitor failure modes from field deployments and work on quality improvements through the product lifecycle.

  • Conduct research, document findings, and present reports at meetings.

  • Identify areas of weakness in the production line or finished products and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Understand problems or client briefs and develop solutions that satisfy them.

  • Select the required tools and materials for the manufacturing process.

  • Attend workshops, training sessions, and conferences to network with others and stay on top of field advancements.

  • Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment.

  • Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals.

  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • Pursuing Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechatronics/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, preferred

  • Superior academic and leadership achievements, preferred

Experience:

  • Prior experience in mechanical and electrical engineering, preferred

  • Experience in leading 3D modeling systems, preferred

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in controller programming, preferred

  • Strong systems analysis and design skills, preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, preferred

Other Details

2027 Internship

Work Hours:

  • This is a temporary intern position. Work schedule will generally fall between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with occasional irregular hours depending on workload.

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal (0%-25%)

Compensation:

  • This is an hourly position paid biweekly.
