Job Description:
On Site Supervision Shipwrights: (Key Personnel, resume required)
The Supervisor position requires 5 years of experience as a supervisor in repair and maintenance efforts onboard U.S. Navy ships in the Shipwright trade shop and On-Site Supervisors must reflect the same experience, training, and qualifications as the Shipwrights they are supervising. These periods of experience cannot overlap.
Required Skills and/or Experience:
a. Each Shipwright shall have at least three (3) years of experience within the trade performing the identified Typical Trade tasks.
b. Each Shipwright shall execute good work practices regarding the erection, use and dismantling of scaffolding per 29 CFR 1915.71
c. Each Shipwright shall be proficient at erecting, modifying, maintaining, and disassembling all types of temporary platforms such as staging/scaffolding on dry docked or waterborne ships including staging around the sail, stern or within internal tanks and voids.
d. Each Shipwright shall possess the knowledge and experience in layout, manufacture and install of temporary decking aboard ships.
e. Each Shipwright shall be proficient at inspecting staging for any discrepancy which may compromise safety, and take appropriate action to rectify identified discrepancies as required.
f. Each Shipwright shall be proficient at planning, layout, working from blueprints, drawings, selecting materials, measure and cut to required lengths, use of hand tools or portable power tools using measuring instruments e.g., rulers, carpenter’s squares and levels.
g. Each Shipwright shall be qualified to wear safety harnesses and work from scaffolds/platforms where drop off will be greater than 5 feet IAW 29 CFR 1915 (Subpart I).
Degree Requirements:
HS Diploma or equivalent
