Full job description

We are seeking a Fisheries and Hatchery Market Lead to grow and help deliver our fisheries practice across the Northwest Region. This seller-doer will combine deep fish hatchery and aquatic-resource experience with client development, project leadership, and the ability to position multidisciplinary teams for new work. The role will focus on hatchery planning, modernization, design, and operations while connecting related fish passage, screening, intake, habitat, water-quality, and aquatic infrastructure capabilities.

In this role, you will develop trusted relationships with tribal nations, utilities, public utility districts, state and federal agencies, and other fisheries and infrastructure clients. You will identify and shape opportunities, lead capture and proposal efforts, support account planning, convert near-term pursuits into sustainable project work, and help grow backlog, revenue, and market presence across the Northwest fisheries and hatchery sector. You will also lead or oversee projects, managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client communications while remaining meaningfully engaged in billable delivery.

You will provide hatchery-specific leadership across fish-rearing systems and facility operations, including water supply and treatment, temperature control, feeding and mixing systems, fish health and life-cycle needs, predator deterrence, collection and sorting, acclimation, and related operational considerations. Depending on project needs, you may also support fish passage and screening facilities, irrigation and major water intakes, floating fish collectors, aquaculture systems, process water systems, hydraulic structures, pipelines, pump stations, utilities, outfalls, wastewater systems, and facility upgrades. You will bring together engineers, fisheries biologists, environmental scientists, permitting specialists, hydraulic modelers, and other disciplines to win and deliver integrated solutions.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, Chemical, Biosystems or related Engineering; Fisheries Biology; Aquaculture; or a closely related discipline.

  • Professional licensure or certification relevant to the candidate’s primary discipline. For engineering candidates, a Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred, with the ability to obtain Washington licensure within one year of hire where required for the role.

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in fisheries, fish hatcheries, aquaculture, aquatic infrastructure, engineering, biology, or related project delivery.

  • Demonstrated seller-doer capability, including client relationship development, opportunity identification, capture planning, proposal leadership, and project delivery.

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client communications.

  • Experience supporting fisheries, hatchery, aquatic infrastructure, water resources, environmental, or related projects.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Fisheries Biology, Aquaculture, Natural Resources, or a related discipline.

  • 10+ years of fisheries, hatchery, engineering, biology, operations, or project and market leadership experience.

  • Experience with salmon, steelhead, trout, sturgeon, or other cold- or warm-water species and with hatchery systems such as rearing, feeding, mixing, temperature control, water treatment, recirculation, and predator deterrence.

  • Experience serving tribal nations, utilities, public utility districts, and state or federal agencies, including familiarity with grant-funded, settlement-funded, or regulatory-driven fisheries programs.

  • Experience connecting hatchery work with fish passage, fish screens, water intakes, FERC-related programs, habitat restoration, water quality, permitting, hydraulics, and dams-and-hydro or water infrastructure projects.

  • Demonstrated success leading teams through planning, permitting, design, construction, commissioning, and operational start-up, as applicable, and preparing technical reports, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and proposals.

  • Established client and partner relationships in the Northwest fisheries and hatchery market, with the ability to expand relationships nationally and mentor or build an integrated practice team.

  • Demonstrated experience leading fish hatchery planning, design, modernization, operations, or delivery, with working knowledge of fish species, growth cycles, habitat needs, fish health, and hatchery operating requirements.
