Staff Accountant

Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting and tax activities for a retail organization in Holmdel, New Jersey. This role will manage day-to-day financial recordkeeping, help maintain accurate ledgers, and contribute to timely tax filings and month-end close activities. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, sound judgment, and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and record journal entries to ensure financial transactions are accurately reflected in the accounting records.

• Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain reliable financial data.

• Support month-end and year-end closing processes by reviewing balances, preparing schedules, and assisting with reporting needs.

• Assist with corporate tax compliance activities, including gathering documentation and helping prepare return-related materials.

• Manage sales tax processes by reviewing transaction data, supporting filings, and resolving reporting issues as needed.

• Maintain organized financial records and documentation to support audits, tax reviews, and internal controls.

• Partner with internal teams to collect accounting information, clarify variances, and improve reporting accuracy.

Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Experience in a staff accountant or similar accounting role.

• Working knowledge of corporate tax and sales tax principles.

• Experience preparing journal entries and maintaining general ledger accuracy.

• Ability to analyze financial information, identify inconsistencies, and resolve issues efficiently.

• Strong attention to detail with solid organizational and time management skills.

• Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
