Overview

Analyzes and maintains detailed accounting and statistical records to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting with special emphasis on analytical review. Performs lead role in month-end reporting and initiates, leads, or participates in improvement to financial accounting, reporting, and processes. Serves as a subject matter expert for both Corporate departments and finance teams at assigned affiliates for both providing and analyzing financial data as well as performance against financial benchmarks.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze monthly financial statements and prepare clear, concise variance explanations and follow-up with appropriate stakeholders.

  • Review and approve accounting documentation prepared by Staff Accountants, including journal entries and account reconciliations.

  • Prepare monthly journal entries for assigned areas and maintain accurate reconciliations for related balance sheet accounts.

  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and UnityPoint Health financial policies and procedures.

  • Research and document accounting treatment for significant transactions, including acquisitions, business line changes, and disposals.

  • Partner with departments and affiliates to support budget preparation, ongoing financial performance monitoring, and reporting.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiency, and effectiveness.

  • Serve as a resource to Finance customers and organizational partners by responding to accounting questions, inquiries, and concerns with professionalism and a strong customer-service focus.

  • Support the development and mentoring of Staff Accountants, helping to strengthen team knowledge and capabilities.

  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives that support organizational and departmental goals.

  • Provide consultation, research, analysis, and review to members of the UnityPoint Health financial leadership team on key assignments and initiatives.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) preferred.

Experience

  • Three (3) years of accounting experience required.

  • Experience in healthcare finance preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license required when operating a vehicle for work-related purposes.
