WJAC has an immediate opening for a creative News Producer!
6 News is expanding its local news products and looking for a strong journalist to help lead the way.
We are looking for someone with solid local news judgment, sharp writing skills and a passion for telling stories that matter to the communities we serve. Experience producing or journalism training is beneficial. But we will train the right candidate who has excellent writing skills and is passionate about learning great storytelling techniques, showcasing, and creating a compelling newscast.
As the region’s number one source for local news, we are preparing to deliver even more local coverage across new and expanding platforms. This is an opportunity to join a newsroom that values strong journalism, urgency, creativity and community connection.
Responsibilities include producing newscasts and digital news content, working closely with reporters and anchors, and some video editing. Editing experience is helpful, but training is available for the right candidate.

The ideal candidate will have:

Solid news judgment

Be a compelling and accurate writer

Be able to multitask and manage time in order to put together an exciting and informative newscast

Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment

Strong leadership and communication skills

The ability to execute news strategies and goals in daily newscasts

Flexibility and on-the-spot problem solving abilities are a must
-
Proficient with non-linear editing (i.e. Avid) and newsroom systems, such as iNews
Experience:

Must have at least some previous news producing experience at a commercial TV station, although the right entry-level candidate may be considered

A journalism degree is preferred
