Full job description

Tax Technology Services Consultant

Deloitte Tax is building a forward-deployed, rapid-prototyping capability that puts technologists directly inside client service to help design and build solutions for tax in real time. As a forward-deployed Tax Technology Services Consultant, you will work hands-on - writing code, building prototypes, and standing up tools - alongside tax specialists to solve tax and business problems where a standard playbook doesn't yet exist. If you love to build, thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, learn quickly, and want to see your work make a real impact for clients, with support from experienced engineers and tax professionals along the way, this role could be a great fit for you.

Recruiting for this role ends on 11/30/26 .

Work you'll do

As a Tax Technology Services Consultant on the Tax forward-deployed engineering team, you will embed directly with client service teams and tax specialists to rapidly prototype and build technology solutions that address emerging tax and business challenges.

  • Collaborate on-site and virtually with clients to understand problems firsthand and translate them into working software quickly

  • Design, build, iterate on and harden prototypes, applications, and automations using modern programming languages, APIs and cloud tools so they can scale reliably

  • Leverage GenAI/LLM tools and other emerging technologies to accelerate solution development

  • Operate with a startup mindset - assisting with moving from concept to working solution in days or weeks rather than months

  • Collaborate with tax technical specialists to ensure solutions are grounded in real client requirements

A successful candidate would possess these skills:

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail and quality of work product

  • Ability to build and sustain professional relationships

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Eagerness to learn and take on new challenges in ambiguous, fast-changing environments with limited structure

The team

Deloitte Tax's forward-deployed engineering team is built to move faster than a traditional consulting engagement. We pair technologists with tax subject-matter specialists to prototype and deploy solutions directly with clients - closer to a startup "skunkworks" model than a standard delivery team. You will learn across both technology and tax and see the direct impact of what you help build.

Required:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and expected to graduate by Summer or Fall 2027 or have completed a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a related/equivalent program

  • Strong academic track record (3.0 cumulative GPA required)

  • Demonstrated coding experience (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL) through coursework, internships, personal projects or open-source contributions

  • You must reside within a commutable distance of your assigned office with the ability to commute daily, if required . You can expect to co-locate on average 2-3 times a week with variations based on types of work/projects and client locations

  • Ability to travel up to 50%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve

  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment

  • The start date for this position will be in Summer 2027 or Winter 2028

Preferred:

  • Hands-on experience using cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) or APIs through classes, projects, or internships

  • Exposure to GenAI/LLM tools, data engineering, or automation frameworks

  • A portfolio of personal projects, hackathon experience, or open-source contributions
