Full job description

Job Description:

Our Opportunity Chewy is seeking an Associate Director, EHS – Compliance and Central Programs to serve as a senior people leader and technical authority within the Chewy EHS organization. Reporting to the Director of EHS, this role carries dual accountability: leading a team of Senior Program Managers who serve as EHS subject matter experts (SMEs) across EHS Launch & Equipment Safety, M&R EHS, EHS Data & Systems, Injury Prevention/Ergonomics, and Program & Policy Governance; and owning EHS Compliance and Governance for the Fulfillment Network. Environmental compliance is owned separately. On the compliance side, this individual owns Chewy’s occupational safety regulatory posture — including annual OSHA recordkeeping and log submissions, partnering with Legal and site stakeholders on regulatory agency visits and enforcement activity, monitoring the evolving regulatory landscape, and ensuring programs and documentation remain audit-ready at all times. This individual must be a proven people leader with deep technical EHS expertise, strong compliance and regulatory acumen, and the ability to drive alignment and accountability across a distributed network. What you’ll do:

  • Lead, develop, and grow a team of Senior Program Managers serving as EHS technical SMEs across EHS Launch & Equipment Safety, M&R EHS, EHS Data & Systems, Injury Prevention/Ergonomics, and Program & Policy Governance; set performance expectations, provide coaching, and build a high-performing team
  • Own EHS Compliance and Governance for the Fulfillment Network; define, apply, and defend occupational safety compliance requirements across all sites, including annual OSHA 300 log maintenance, 300A posting, and electronic submission to OSHA
  • Partner with Legal and site stakeholders to prepare for, coordinate, and respond to regulatory agency inspections, investigations, and enforcement activity; serve as the primary EHS point of contact for regulatory visits
  • Monitor the evolving Local, State, and Federal regulatory landscape; assess operational impact, identify compliance gaps, and drive required program and policy changes across the network
  • Maintain EHS central programs and policies, ensuring all standards are current, operationally relevant, and consistently applied; own the policy governance lifecycle from development through network-wide rollout
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Construction, and Procurement leadership to embed EHS requirements into capital projects, equipment programs, and business processes across the network
  • Manage headcount planning, hiring, and development across the Central Programs team; build organizational depth and succession readiness
  • Assist the Director of EHS with governance processes, cross-functional alignment, and reporting on compliance posture, program performance, and regulatory risk

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, or equivalent — required
  • CSP certification from BCSP — required
  • 10+ years of progressive EHS experience with demonstrated people leadership and team development in a multi-site environment
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910/1926) and recordkeeping requirements (29 CFR 1904); experience owning OSHA log submissions and compliance calendar management across a multi-site network
  • Experience partnering with Legal to prepare for and respond to regulatory agency inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions
  • Broad technical EHS knowledge across equipment safety, injury prevention/ergonomics, EHS data and systems, M&R safety, and program and policy governance
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain, and govern EHS programs and policies at network or enterprise scale
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence Operations, Legal, and senior leadership; experience driving cross-functional alignment on large-scale EHS initiatives

Bonus:

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, or a related field — strongly preferred
  • Additional certifications such as ARM (Associate in Risk Management), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or CPE (Certified Professional Ergonomist)
  • Experience in e-commerce fulfillment, distribution center, or logistics network environments
  • Familiarity with EHS management platforms (e.g., Gensuite, Intelex, VelocityEHS) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
  • Experience with ISO 45001 management systems and third-party audit programs
  • Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy

The base salary range for this role is $137,500 - $221,500.00.• The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
